Pak violates ceasefire for 181 times; 8 SF, 14 civilians killed in J&K

 

SRINAGAR:  Pakistan has violated ceasefire for 181 times on International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC),  claiming the lives of eight security force personnel and 14 civilians during 2015.

As many as 62 civilians and 13 security force personnel were also injured in the firing from across the border, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds the Home portfolio, said in the Legislative Assembly, in reply to a question by Ali Mohammad Sagar.

There were 93 border firing incidents on IB Kathua 17, Samba 22 and Jammu 54 during the period from January 15, 2015 to January 15, 2016, she added.

In Kathua, five civilians and a security force jawan were injured, while at Samba, a civilian was killed and five others were injured.     At Jammu, five civilians were killed and 30 were injured, Ms Mufti said, adding that two security force personnel also were wounded there.

There were 73 firing incidents on LoC in Jammu region five in Rajouri, 66 in Poonch and two in Jammu.

At Rajouri, a security jawan was killed, in Poonch eight civilians and two security personnel were killed and 22 civilians and six security men were injured. However, in Jammu firing, there was no casualty, she said.

The Chief Minister said there were 15 firing incident on LoC in Kashmir province, including Kargil.

At Kupwara in 9 ceasefire violations three security personnel were killed and as many were injured while  in Baramulla only one security jawan was injured in three violations.

At Bandipora, there was only one ceasefire violation, in which two security personnel were killed in one firing incident, Ms Mufti added. (AGENCIES)
