US-Pak watchers call US’ listing of Pakistan as a country providing safe haven for the terrorist only eyewash and nothing more. In the aftermath of 9/11 the then US President had told Pakistan to declare whether she was “with us or not”. That was a clear indication that the US knew from the very beginning that Pakistan was warm and hospitable to the terrorist organizations based in Pakistan and working as religious crusaders or jihadis. The US knew that arms and ammunition worth billions of dollars she supplied to the Afghan Mujahideen through Pakistani conduits did not reach the Afghans and more than half of it was retained by Pakistan and at the end of the day fell in the hands of jihadi organizations like Haqqani group and Taliban active in Afghanistan or LeT, Jaish or Hizbul Mujahideen armed men fighting Indian forces in Kashmir. The US never asked Pakistan to recall those arms as she had insisted on recalling the anti aircraft missiles. Not only that, after 9/11 attack in which the hand of Pakistani jihadis was visible behind the curtain, the US continued to give Pakistan hundreds of billions of dollars as military aid to help her build nuclear arsenal and conventional arms stockpiles. A fairly large portion of these billions of dollars were utilized by Pakistani military Generals in raising the Taliban, in facilitating subversive activities of Al- Qaeda, in raising fanatical jihadi groups like LeT, JM, Lashkar-e Jhangvi, Jundullah, Hizbul Mujahideen and scores of others. Washington went to the lengthy of saying that she will not let Pakistan fall apart for its destructive domestic policy. The reason why the US makes it a point to provide crutches to Pakistan is that on its bidding Pakistan is providing military and moral support to the Saudi monarchy which in turn ensures America’s oil interests in the Gulf region. This was also the reason why the US destroyed Saddam Hussain and Iraq both. Islamabad and GHQ must have had a hearty laugh on hearing that the US had listed Pakistan among countries providing safe haven to terrorists. India must remember for all times that she has to fight terrorism on her own. However, the step taken by the US is appreciated in the entirety of the matter but she has to do more like asking Pakistan to handover the culprits of Mumbai and Pathankot attack to India.
