JAMMU, Aug 1: Pakistani Rangers violated the ceasefire by resorting to small arms firing and mortar shelling targeting three Border Out Posts (BOPs) of the Border Security Force (BSF) along the International Border (IB) at Garkhal in Kanachak sector of Jammu district this morning, drawing retaliation from the BSF.
The Rangers resorting to mortar shelling and small arms firing targeting three BOPs of the BSF at forward village of Garkhal in Kanachak sector at 10.40 am today, official sources said.
BSF troops guarding the borderline also retaliated and the exchanges continued till 11.40 am
“There was no loss of life or injury to anyone on Indian side in the Pakistani firing”, sources said, adding the BSF retaliated effectively to silence the Pakistani guns.
Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire four times on July 29 and 30 along the Line of Control (LoC).
There have been three incidents of sniper attacks by Pakistani troops along the LoC in July. An Army jawan was killed in Poonch and two BSF jawans were killed in similar incidents along the LoC in Kashmir valley.
There have been 18 ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border in July in which four persons, including three jawans, were killed and 14 others injured.
