JAMMU, Nov 11: In connection with the celebration of World Diabetes Day, falling on November 14, the 16th annual on spot painting cum poster competition was held today at Kamla Palace, Jammu which was organized by Janta Diabetes Care Centre Talab Tillo & JKFAS.
World Diabetes Day is celebrated to mark the birthday of Dr Fadrick Banting (Nobel Prize winner) who discovered Insulin in 1921, which has saved and changed lives of millions of diabetics.
Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, Senior Diabetologist, Jammu also a well known artist has been working relentlessly to make people aware about this disease and remove the myths about management of diabetes.
The Painting competition was held to create awareness about the disease in which 200 students of 20 schools of Jammu participated. The students put their thoughts and concepts with the help of paint and brush on paper.
The painting competition was held on changing life style, a cause of diabetes, less calories of optimum weight, lesser diabetes, Fast food kills Fast-Live better, control blood sugar, Prevent complications, Insulin—a friend in need, Know your Disease—and Live Long or other topics related to diabetes.
Dr Raj Kumar discussed about the various aspects in the management of the disease and that certain precautions and care can help in the management of diabetes and prevent long term complications.
The prizes were also given to winners in the competition.
In group A Nidhanshi Bavoria of Shangrilla Public School bagged first position, Asha Jyoti Behera of SM Shishu Niketan HSS bagged second position while Jaspreet Kour of Shiksha Niketan High School got third position. Siddhi Sumbria of Shiksha Niketan High School bagged consolation prize.
In Group B Nitik Mahajan of Model Academy bagged first position while Heena of St. Xavier Convent School and Arun Singh of Army Public School Akhnoor bagged second and third position respectively. Yudhvir Singh of Model Academy got the consolation prize.
