Paharis threaten agitation for ST status

RAJOURI, Dec 23 : Jammu Kashmir Pahari People Movement has threatened to launch a  statewide agitation if Scheduled Tribe (ST) status is not accorded to the community.
This was announced during a convention of the Forum at its head office, here today.
Addressing the participants, provincial president of the Forum, M A Sagar and provincial general secretary Vijay Kochhar exhorted upon  the Pahari community to be united for launching a struggle very soon. They also appealed  all the Pahari leader to come forward cutting across political affiliation for cause of the community.
Chief executive of  Pahari Students Union Shahbaz Khan and its State president Abdul Qadir Khan threw light on genuineness of the ST status demand. The Government has been ignoring more than 30 lakh Pahari people and playing with the future of 50 thousand unemployed youth  of the community, which has had been suffering a lot for the last 30 years, they alleged.
The gathering was also addressed by Shusheel Datta, R S Malla, Aijaz Khan, Jawaid Mughal, Shieraz Sheikh, Ashwani Sharma, Riaz Ahmed, Rajinder Singh, Madhur Gupta and others.
