3 consume poison

JAMMU, May 3: Three persons made abortive attempts to end their lives by consuming poisonous substances at their native places.
As per reports, Rekha Devi, daughter of Krishan Singh of Akalpur allegedly consumed poisonous substance at her native place. Noticing her unconscious, family members shifted her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors washed her stomach and she was responding to the treatment.
In another same incident, Asha Devi, wife of Labba Ram of Deyrian, Akhnoor also made an abortive attempt to end her life by consuming some poisonous substance while Abdul Ahmed of Hindwara also consumed some poisonous substance at his native place.
The duo were shifted to GMCH, where their condition was stated to be stable till last reports came in.

Villager falls to death from hill

REASI, May 3: A villager slipped from a hill top and died on the spot in Mahore area of district Reasi this afternoon.
A police spokesman identified the deceased as Khushal Ahmed (30), son of Ali Mohammed, resident of Dubri village in  tehsil Mahore. The mishap took place when the villager was busy in cutting green grass at hill. During the process, he slipped and rolled down into 50 feet deep nallah. He was killed on the spot. Later, the villagers and family came to know about the incident and removed his body from nallah. The police party also reached there.

Bill in LS to extend tenure of MCI Board of Governors

NEW DELHI, May 3:
A bill seeking to extend the tenure of the Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India (MCI) by one more year beyond May 14 was introduced in the Lok Sabha today.
The Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2012, provides for extending the board’s tenure till May 2013. The current tenure of the board is coming to an end on May 14.
The amendment, moved by Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, seeks to extend the tenure of the board from the present two years to three years and supersedes the amendment moved last year.
The Indian Medical Council Act was amended after the body was dissolved in 2010 following arrest of its then president Ketan Desai by the CBI on charges of corruption.
According to the Bill, after the 2011 amendment extending the tenure of the board from one year to two years the Government initiated a proposal to set up a National Commission for Human Resources for Health as an overarching regulatory body which could subsume councils like the MCI and the Dental Council of India in it.(PTI)

Bakaya inaugurates lanes of Bharat Nagar

JAMMU, May 3: A function was organised, here today, by the inhabitants of Bharat Nagar, Bantalab, on the occasion of inaugural of Lane No 2 and 3.
MLC Vijay Bakaya was the Chief Guest who inaugurated the lanes.
The residents accorded a warm welcome to the MLC and expressed gratitude to him for his contribution of Rs 6 lakhs from his CDF in getting constructed lanes and drains in the area.
A memorandum of left over demands of the area was also presented to the MLC, who assured the gathering of his full support in mitigating the sufferings. Besides he directed on the spot the Sarpanch of the area for taking up the matter with BDO Bhalwal.

Liquor seized from Katra holy town

JAMMU, May 3: Police today arrested a bootlegger and recovered a large quantity of illicit liquor, which was being smuggled into holy town of Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
The accused had been identified as Mubarak Hussain son of Mir Hussain, a resident of village Dhanua, Pouni.
He was smuggling the liquor in vehicle No. 1370 JK14B.
Police parties headed by SHO Katra Inspector Pradeep Gupta made the arrest.
A case has been registered against the accused at Katra police station.

RTIEA elects central body

JAMMU, May 3: Ravi Tawi Irrigation Employees Association (RTIEA) today held a meeting under the chairmanship of Shiv Kumar Sharma, president, INTUC and elected the office bearers for central body.
In the meeting, Kuldeep Kumar Sharma was unanimously elected as president of RTIEA for the next term while Ashok Kumar Sharma, was elected as general secretary.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, president, INTUC, will continue as Chairman of Ravi Tawi Irrigation Employees Association (RTIEA).
The meeting was attended by the employees of Tawi Pump House, Raya Lift Station, Gate Sub Division of Jammu Divisions and Basantpur Lift Station, Lakhanpur Lift Station, Ujh Barrage Sub Division, Store Sub Division from Kathua Division.

Supt clarifies death report

POONCH, May 3: Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Poonch, has clarified that death of  jailed woman Jareen Begum was caused due to internal hemorrhage in the broad ligament in Poonch hospital yesterday.
In statement here the Medical officer, while reacting to a news item published in the columns of this newspaper further claimed that woman delivered dead child. He said Dr Shehanaz Bhatti (Gynecologist) and other staff members put their hard efforts to save the woman and her child. It is pertinent to mention here that DC Poonch has already initiated an inquiry into the matter.

Charak appointed as State President, PDP Kissan Cell

JAMMU, May 3: Satpal Singh Charak, a prominent farmer, was today appointed as State President of PDP, Kissan Cell, with immediate effect.
He was appointed by PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, in order to strengthen the Kissan Cell of the party and to highlight and monitor various problems being faced by the farmers.

Woman missing

JAMMU, May 3: A young housewife has been reportedly missing since April 29 from Adh Kawari area enroute to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
The 30 years old housewife Neeta Bala, wife of Kuldeep Singh and daughter of Om Parkash, resident of village Sadyal (Thandi Kassi), tehsil and district Rajouri, had gone to holy shrine along with other family members. While returning she got separated from the other members and thereafter there was no clue about that. A missing report has been lodged with the Adh Kawari Police.

JAMMU, May 3: Congregation of All India Maglooria Mahajan Biradari is going to be held at Magloor (Dayalachak) on May 6, 2012.
The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of all committee members of Biradari to take stock of the arrangements incl;uding Langer and development of holy shrine of Baba Brahm Devta Ji,under the chairmanship of its president Harinder Gupta.
All Biradari members have been requested to participate along with families to invoke blessings of the deity.
