DEDH ISHQIYA a must watch

Taran Adarsh

It’s a well-established trend to have a franchise or a sequel as a meritorious follow up to a triumphant prequel. The year 2013 ended on a high, with the third installment of the lucrative DHOOM franchise rewriting the record books. Now, in the second week of 2014, a sequel to the immensely likable ISHQIYA [2010] is out to woo the spectators — DEDH ISHQIYA. But unlike most franchises/sequels, which have an urban backdrop, DEDH ISHQIYA, much like its predecessor, is set in the hinterland, has an unassuming, homespun feel and an old-world charm to it. But let me make one thing clear: Cosmetically, the two films may be in the same space, but the stories are in sharp contrast to one another.
Abhishek Chaubey created an out of the ordinary world in his directorial debut ISHQIYA. The tale of a love-lorn and ruthless woman Krishna [portrayed by Vidya Balan], who uses Khalujaan and Babban to settle scores, caught the attention of cineastes for varied reasons. Besides a differing plot and an enthralling screenplay, that film had wit, conspiracy and romance that was so unconventional and individualistic on the Hindi screen then. DEDH ISHQIYA continues the escapades of Khalujaan and Babban, but the duo has the extremely desirable, sophisticated, but a secretive woman [Begum Para] and her confidant [Muniya] for company. In addition, while the first part was a love triangle, with both Khalujaan and Babban falling in love with Krishna, DEDH ISHQIYA has two love stories running concurrently.
ISHQIYA was sharp, spicy and volatile, with impulsive characters and a storyline taking a somersault every few minutes. DEDH ISHQIYA is no different. It transports you to a diverse world, but like the first part, this one focuses on love and deceit as well. Also, it’s far more complex this time around… and the truth hits you like a ton of bricks!
Begum Para [Madhuri Dixit-Nene] of Mahmudabad is hosting a festival of poetry and music in her mansion. The country’s best poets are in town. Khalujaan [Naseeruddin Shah], posing as the Nawab of Chandpur, is participating as a poet in the festival. He is not there merely to show off his poetic wares, but to impress the widowed Begum who, as the grapevine suggests, is scouting for a husband — preferably a poet.
Babban [Arshad Warsi] arrives in Mahmudabad to take Khalujaan back to their old life, but his plans alter the moment he sets his eyes on Begum’s maid and confidant Muniya [Huma Qureshi], a brash and sexy young woman. Muniya too has plans of her own. She leaves the palace every now and then in a disguise to meet gangsters in dark alleys. The palace is rife with intrigue…
Unlike the promos of the first part, which communicated quite a bit about the film, the promos of DEDH ISHQIYA maintain the element of mystery around the characters and its plot. Sure, one is familiar with Khalujaan and Babban, but the new characters that Abhishek Chaubey introduces us to in DEDH ISHQIYA — Begum Para and Muniya specifically — are shrouded in secrecy/ambiguity. While ISHQIYA was earthy and rustic, one gets to witness an alternate universe in DEDH ISHQIYA. There’s a lot of poetry, music and color this time around. At the same time, there are layers to the story that baffle you. Garnished with chaste Urdu and peppered with unconventional humor and simmering sexuality, the characters indulge in a treacherous game yet again. This time, it’s even more dicey and perilous.
Abhishek Chaubey deserves colossal admiration for taking the story forward by retaining some characters and adding several new ones. The screenplay is capricious and unpredictable, imparting a flavor that’s distinct and one you most certainly haven’t experienced heretofore. Also, a section of the audience may find the chaste Urdu a tad strenuous to comprehend [although the sub-titles make it quite effortless to decipher], but come on, when you have a film based in Punjab or a South Indian state, the essence of that sector has to come to the forefront, right?
The music [Vishal Bhardwaj] is a sore point and one misses winsome tracks like ‘Dil To Bachcha Hain Ji’ and ‘Ibne Batuta’ from ISHQIYA. This film deserved an entrancing score, also because the emphasis is on poetry this time. Dialogue, also penned by Vishal Bhardwaj, are the mainstay and the backbone of the enterprise. The lines are loaded with wit and the usage of Urdu is prudently juxtaposed in several sequences. The DoP captures the old-world charm wonderfully well and the visuals are absolutely stunning.
Expectedly, Naseeruddin Shah is supremely efficient as Khalujaan. Getting into the skin of the character, the actor gives it all to the film, delivering a performance that’s sure to be recalled amongst his premium works. Matching Naseer is Madhuri Dixit-Nene, a powerhouse of talent. Cast in an unconventional role, it’s a colossal leap for the actress who has several power-packed performances in her repertoire. She also deserves kudos for opting for an unconventional, avant-garde character, which will only win her tremendous admiration and honour in times to come. Arshad Warsi is in terrific form yet again. The actor, a spontaneous performer, wows you with his brilliant act. In fact, Naseer and Arshad are a delight to watch in several sequences, with both complimenting each other from commencement to conclusion. Huma Qureshi is fantastic and if one were to say so, catches you with complete surprise. Her sequences with Naseer, Madhuri and Arshad reiterate that she can stand on her feet, despite being pitted against top notch actors. Yet another performance that stays with you is that of Vijay Raaz. One of the finest talents around, I am sure, DEDH ISHQIYA will make the film fraternity realize that you cannot ignore him for long.
Salman Shahid is top notch in a cameo. Ravi Gosain does a decent job. Manoj Pahwa registers a solid impact.
On the whole, DEDH ISHQIYA is a worthy follow up to the widely admired ISHQIYA. Powerful writing, superb direction and outstanding performances make DEDH ISHQIYA a must watch. Just don’t miss it!

Sant Bhai Rocha Singh Ji

B S Mahant

Sant Bhai Rocha Singh Ji commonly known as Thakar Sant Bhai Rocha Singh Ji. This is due to  his century long preaching and spreading of Gurmat teaching and attaining a very high level of Sant and Spayee after appointment for the purpose by Guru Gobind  Singh Ji himself. He served Sikh Panth during his life period stretching upto to 115 years.
Sant Bhai Rocha Singh was born at village Kossa Zilla Hazara near Rawalpindi. His father Bhai Punjab Singh was a Gursikh and professionally a businessman. He grew up in the Gurmat atmosphere because of regular visits to their place  by Sant Bhai Pheru Singh Ji and Sant Bhai Punjab Singh Ji who both were baptised Amrit by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. These two saints one after other were looking after Sikh Sangat regularly and advocating adoption of Sikh religion. This way Sant Bhai Rocha Singh Ji found a very favourable atmosphere at his home itself. Sikh Sangat used to gather daily as per the instructions of Guru Ji Maharaj. Gurbani was recited and Kirtan was performed. A Gurudwara was also constructed for the purpose in his village Kossa by Bhai Punjab Singh Ji father of Sant Bhai Rocha Singh Ji.
When Guru Gobind Singh Ji after leaving Anandpur Sahib stayed at Sabo Ki Talwandi, Sant Bhai Rocha Singh at the age of 17 years went there and offered himself for baptising Amrit and service to Guru Ji. Guru Ji was very pleased to see such a beautiful young man fond of Amrit and offering Guru Ji service for his whole life. Guru Gobind Singh baptised him Amrit and observing him suitable for spreading Sikhism, bestowed him Saropa and Kirpan and deputed Sant Bhai Rocha Singh Ji to Jammu & Kashmir, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Pothohar Zilla Hazara near Rawal Pindi for preaching Sikh religion.
Therefore,  Sant Bhai Rocha Singh started his mission of serving Guruji and common masses. Since, it was period of cruelty, suppression and also superstition, people in these hilly areas were living a life not better than animals in any way. The public in general and Hindus in particular were having no way to get their grievances redress anywhere. But Sant Bhai Rocha Singh on his return from Sabo Ki Talwandi joined Sant Bhai Punjab Singh at Dera Chhatter class and remained there till the death of Sant Bhai Punjab Singh who appointed him as Mahant of Dera before his death and therafter Sant Bhai Rocha Singh carried on responsibility  given to him by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Sant Bhai Rocha Singh in order to prepare himself for the task undertook Tapasya (regular recitation of Guru Nam) for 12 long years in a hollow portion of a very old Deodar tree at village Panjla which is now known as Tapyana Sahib Shallkot village Panjla at Baramulla in Kashmir. Thereafter, Sant Bhai Rocha Singh Ji started preaching Sikh religion in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Zilla Hazara and adjoining areas by visiting them time and again so as to take regular care of the devotees and save them from the cruel hands of rulers. Realising that his task was very difficult under the prevailing situation, he thus raised a contingent of 400-500 armed devotees who could face all type of eventualities thrusted upon him while performing  his duties, by the notorious people in the garb of rulers, nawabs and chowdries.
And when people observed that Sant Bhai Rocha Singh has come to save them and is the first and last hope of their safety, they joined his mission of Gurmat and willingly/gladly joined him in good number within a decade period. Most of Hindu population adopted Sikhism and thus Sant Bhai Rocha Singh saved the minority population from the cruel rulers. But the arrival of Sant Bhai Rocha Singh on the seen as a revolutionary was not acceptable to those people who used to treat public in an inhuman way. Rocha Singh who was very wise to foresee attempts on his life by the rulers and nawabs and he had already  an armed force. These rulers were either defeated or killed during their thrusted battles on Thakar Bhai Rocha Singh. A number of battles in which many nawabs lost their lives include.
In battle with nawab Chhatla Khan at Kothian, Chhatla Khan was defeated and killed.
In the battle at Kala Di Gand, the Japtu Jabial who wanted to stop Thakar Ji too was defeated and killed along with many of his companions.
Again at Kam Raj, Kashmir the ruler of Kashmir was advised by his councellors to stop Sant Bhai Rocha Singh who was stated to be spreading Sikhism at the cost of Islam and was stated to be a danger to the ruler.
Thakar Ji’s armed sewadar faught with dedication and defeated Dilwar and  killed him.
These battles though thrusted on Thakar Bhai Rocha Singh created a favourable atmosphere as people from all religions and sects realised that he is neither territory hungry nor he is establishing his rule anywhere. He was just preaching Sikhism and fighting for the total population against all types of suppression on them. Even the Sultan of Kashmir realized his folly and bagged apology from Thakar. He  assured that henceforth no resistance would be made for his movement and preaching of Sikh religion.
Sant Bhai Rocha Singh thereafter established a Dera i.e Sikh preaching centre at Dehri Sahib Rawla Kot on a big Jagir offered by Salawant Khan, King of the area. Observing the end nearer, Thakar Bhai Rocha Singh Ji appointed his nephew and senior most disciple Sant Bhai Hakeekat Singh  as Mahant after him who also very ably carried on the responsibility and created many astonishing achievements by virtue of his very high degree of spiritual level. One of such happenings is well  known to everybody when on the request of Maharaja Gulab Singh, Sant Bhai Hekeekat Singh Ji performed ARDAS and got the big boulder broken into pieces in a fort at Bagh.
Sant Bhai Hakeekat Singh Ji appointed his only son Sant Bhai Jeet Singh Ji as Mahant of Dera Dehri Sahib after him who also proved to be a spiritual saints under whose able guidance Sikh Panth flourished and Sant Bhai Jeet Singh appointed his four sons as Mahant of Dera Dehari Sahib and allotted each one separate areas for their work who performed their duties very suitably till the time of partition in 1947. This centre of Sikh pilgrimage is in Pakistan now. Now a Dera under the same name of Dera Dehri Sahib is under construction for carrying on the responsibilities further as per the wishes and directions of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.

Kidney failure in dogs

Maneka Gandhi
Four of my dogs have died of kidney failure this year. I have no idea of what to do. I discussed this with Ingrid Newkirk of PETA who dropped in to Delhi for one evening and she immediately said Leptospirosis. Then two days later this opinion was reinforced by two other foreign vets, visiting India. If I don’t know about it, I am fairly sure no one else does. So this is a technical article.
The largest killer of dogs in India is kidney failure and no one can explain it. It stretches across dogs that are fed badly or well, fat and thin, pet or stray, young or old. Scientists are coming to the opinion that a little known but very rampant disease called Leptospirosis may be the killer. Through this article I would like to address anyone who has pets or runs a shelter or has a vet friend.
How Would a dog catch Leptospirosis?
Leptospirosis affects many kinds of animals besides dogs. The organism that causes leptospirosis belongs to a group of organisms called spirochetes.
Dogs and cats pick this up from rats, wildlife as well as domestic livestock. More cases occur after heavy rainfall. Leptospira persist in standing water, dampness, mud and alkaline conditions.
Most infected animals that spread leptospirosis do not appear ill. In these animals, the leptospira have taken up residence in their kidneys. When they urinate they contaminate their environment with living leptospira. Animals can become infected by sniffing this urine. The leptospira are washed by rains into standing water. Animals wading, swimming or drinking the contaminated water develop the disease. They can also enter through a bite wound or through the pets eating infected materials.
What Happens A Dog Catches Leptospirosis ?
Not all dogs that are exposed to leptospirosis become visibly ill. Chronic kidney inflammation is a leading cause of kidney failure and death in dogs. This form of kidney damage can be one outcome of leptospirosis.
When leptospirosis does cause sudden disease in dogs, it tends to be most severe in dogs that are younger than 6 months old. These are the pets most likely to suffer life-threatening liver and kidney damage. It takes about 4-12 days after exposure for the pet to feel ill.
In dogs that become ill, the leptospira spread rapidly through the pet’s blood stream, usually causing high fevers, depression and joint pain. Leptospira produce powerful toxins that attack the liver and kidneys, leading to failure of these organs. Some varieties primarily cause liver damage, while others concentrate in the kidneys. In other pets, blood fails to clot normally – leading to bleeding.
What Are The Signs To See In The Dog?
The most common signs are fever and depression. These pets are cold, shivery, and stiff. They may carry their tummies tucked up due to pain. Some drool and vomit and most lose their appetite. Fever causes many dogs to drink excessively.
Later in the disease, a few pets will develop eye inflammations (uveitis), nervous system abnormalities, or pass red-tinged urine. As the disease progresses, the pet may become dehydrated due to the fever, vomiting and disinterest in drinking. A drop to subnormal body temperature is a very grave sign. A few dogs, particularly pups, will die suddenly before many of these signs occur.
When the liver has been damaged, the pet’s skin may take on a yellowish tinge and show all the symptoms of hepatitis. When the kidneys have been severely damaged, the pet may show the signs of uremia.
How Can Other Dogs Be Prevented From Catching It?
You have to find a way to deal with the urine of an infected dog so that it does not infect others. Because recovered pets can shed leptospira in their urine for months, this has to be monitored even after the animal has recovered.
Confine the animal to an easily-sanitized area of your house. Take your dog out on a leash frequently to urinate. Only allow the pet to urinate on dry concrete surface that can be easily sanitized with bleach.
How Will The Vet Treat Leptospirosis?
The treatment of leptospirosis is much easier than the diagnosis. Many common antibiotics kill leptospira – ordinary penicillin, tetracycline and erythromycin all work well. Most vets keep infected pets on a tetracycline-class antibiotic for an extended period after recovery to prevent a carrier state from developing.
Sick pets require intense supportive care to get them through the early severe stage of the disease. Dogs with stomach involvement need anti-emetic medications to lessen vomiting. Dogs that vomit need intravenous fluids to stem dehydration and correct blood acid / base balance. Rigorous fluid therapy also helps flush out the pet’s kidneys. Some animals recover. Some go on to suffer chronic renal failure or develop chronic active hepatitis – neither of which is curable.
How Can A Pet Be Prevented From Catching Leptospirosis ?
How Long Do Leptospirosis Organisms Survive In The Environment ?
Leptospira are very dependent on water, mud or damp clay soils to survive. They die almost immediately on dry surfaces – even if those surfaces could be contaminated with urine from other infected animals. Temperatures at or above 131 deg.F (42 deg.C) kill leptospira as well. All common household disinfectants (bleaches, alcohol based products, vinegar, lemon juice etc.) kill leptospira quickly; as does a liberal application of detergent or boiling for 5 minutes. Standing water can be disinfected using swimming pool chlorine tablets.

Careers for the Future

Gauri Chhabra
Over the past few years, the world has shrunk into a flat ball and what flows as natural corollary to it is increasing carbon footprint, growing dependence on IT, spurt of educational institutions and a world that thrives on social networking. These have brought many new career options to the fore front. These careers are harbingers of the future and are laced with innovation, creativity and lucre.
Sustain ability consultant
Energy costs and climate change are two key drivers of many companies looking for green solutions. With increased focus on reducing carbon footprint and enhancing sustainability, more andmore organizations are joining the sustainability bandwagon. This opens the doors for careers such as Sustainability Consultant.
There are two distinct sustainability career paths. First, you can build it through degrees in business and public administration, physical or life sciences, engineering, social sciences or natural resources and conservation. Second, in case you have been responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of your organization, you can easily dovetail your skills and join the sustainability party. Even if you have a fresh MBA under your belt, you can join the risk management team. Most companies offer internships, which provide an opportunity to get to know the firm and for the firm to get to know you, and can be an excellent route to a full-time job offer.
What does a Sustainability
consultant do?
As a sustainability consultant, you would be responsible for looking new ways to reduce client costs and increase client competitiveness – core services that help keep them in business. Since the C -level executives are constantly focused on bottom line activities, your main job would be to measure and manage the company’s carbon footprint and address climate change-related liabilities. You would be responsible for preparing erudite reports and papers, and offering attractive, understandable ways for businesses to reduce costs and gain sustainable competitive advantage particularly in an era of rising energy costs.Besides, you would develop sustainability scorecards, which has a public relations and marketing dimension. You would also be conducting online research on environmental regulatory updates, calculating the energy consumption for manufacturing a particular product, and presenting sustainability compliance report findings to clients, upper management or regulatory officials.
Who would hire you?
The companies that are gravitating towards sustainability and trying to position themselves as thought leaders in this domain  are Accenture,Deloitte, BCG, McKinsey etc. While the sustainability practice groups of these firms are often relatively new, they are growing, and represent an emerging area of opportunity, particularly for MBAs and mid-career experts. In some cases, these firms offer sustainability as a component of risk management. Where it’s far more exciting and innovative, of course, is when it looks at a wholesale transformation of business strategy.
As a Sustainability practitioner, you would rarely be confined to just one area of expertise – instead, you need to draw upon a range of different disciplines to come up with solutions that address environmental, economic and social needs. Sustainability’s focus on interdisciplinary problem-solving might be a tall order to meet, but it’s also an exceptional opportunity. How many other professions allow you to make a positive difference across so many diverse areas?
Market Research Data miner
Have you ever noticed that every time you shop at your favorite retail outlet like Big Bazar and Best Price, you are asked to fill a form that encapsulates your name, date of birth, contact information, and your feedback about the purchases and your shopping experience. Customer information and management becomes vital to the retail experience, businesses are compiling data and mining data in droves.
This calls for the careers such as Market research data miner. In order to become good data mining practitioner you need to understand statistical concepts and basic principles of knowledge induction. Knowing inferential stats, t-tests, analysis of variance, regressions, and so on is important. You need to know some academic or commercial software, since you won’t be doing logistic regression on a piece of paper. Knowing the business application of the model is very important. Segmentations, cross-selling, retention, customer value and profitability are particularly common.
What would you be required to do?
You would be required to use pattern recognition technologies and statistical and mathematical techniques to sift through warehoused information, and recognize significant facts, relationships, trends, patterns, exceptions and anomalies that might otherwise go unnoticed. Besides, your analysis would result in market segmentation, customer churn, fraud detection, direct marketing, market basket analysis ie  understand what products or services are commonly purchased together; e.g., beer and diapers and trend analysis.
Who would hire you?
With companies like Google and Facebook leading the way in collecting customer data, there may still be room for developers that focus on creating analytics software capable of bringing all that data together and providing additional insight. Almost all companies who are interested in Customer relationship Management would hire you especially the FMCG sector where the need to mine customer behavior and sentiment from social and other Web-based platforms is crucial.
Admission consultant
Over the past decade, the number of education institutes has increased exponentially and so have the number of courses and degrees. This confuses the students as they are overwhelmed with myriad career options and colleges that would give them the value for their money. Here is when Admission consultants come in the picture.
Admissions consultants work with people applying for college, so it is a requirement that the consultant has successfully applied for a school of their choice. Go for a degree in business, psychology, counseling or human resources.
What would you be required to do?
You would be required to help students pick the best programs and improve their chances of being admitted to colleges. You would also help them in filling application forms, writing college essays, meeting deadlines, and preparing for interviews over the course of months or a year.
Who would hire you?
Many schools, colleges and counseling firms hire people to help young students choose their college track. You may be offered a number of positions, starting with lower degrees and moving up to the position of consultant. A few years of refreshing the different issues faced when applying for college will help you to qualify for consulting work. Those of you with an entrepreneur traitcan consider becoming a private consultant. Here, your network with families, schools and colleges would help.
Social media manager
In today’s fast and fluid world, social networking sites like twitter, Linked in,facebook play a major role in determining the mind space that a person, brand or organization occupies in the minds of the consumers. One of the major factors behind the success and increasing popularity of Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) is the way it has been able to connect with the masses through the social media.
This creates a need for Social Media Manager- the person who is responsible for maintaining your presence in the social networking audience.
What would you do?
As a Social Media manager, you would be responsible for posting relevant information about your organization on the media- right where people would love to see it. You gain an instant mileage by doing that. Google and sometimes even your Twitter feed serves as Yellow Pages for the buyer who is looking for information. Marketers are breaking their necks to create and provide it in high volume. To make your content cater and reach out to the right audience, seek customer feedback. A great social media manager understands the importance of customer feedback and its effect on improving the product or service. Next, you would be responsible for introducing your company as a thought leader in a particular domain.  Keep an open dialogue, whether it’s with a lead product designer or C-level executives — and let their expertise be the basis for some of your posts. Start quoting your C level executives in social media updates. Conduct and post interviews. However you can, make sure you’re establishing your company as a thought leader rather than a piggy-backer. You would also be using social media as a prospecting tool and you need to recognize that there’s an audience out there that needs you. Specifically on Twitter, it’s extremely easy to monitor hashtags of relevance in order to identify these potential prospects.
Nothing allows for direct access to a brand quite like social media.
Who would hire you?
Almost every organization who thinks seriously about broadening customer base and enhancing brand retention and recall would hire you. You can earn as much as 4-10 lacs per annum by adding to the to line activities.
Therefore, this 2014, think out of the box and pave your way to an offbeat career thatis creative as well as with lucrative.

Anthology of Dogri poems

O P Sharma
“Dogri Satsai” a collection of Dogri poems  which has bagged the prestigious Sahitya Akademy Award during the year 2013.
Sitaram Sapolia, the author of this book, has in an interview immediately after the announcement of the Award, expressed deep sense of pleasure and satisfaction over having made significant contribution to the Dogri language and is rich literature.
In a wide-ranging interview, Mr. Sapolia spoke about his life and literary works. He narrated his academic career, his sustained efforts to face the life and also dealt on the source of his inspiration to write in Hindi and Dogri and his literary works.
Unique features
Talking about uniqueness of his expression, he told me that this particular book contains “Dohas” (couplets in Dogri poetry) for the first time in Dogri Satsai. It is a distinct style of poetry in which due attention is paid to the metre while expressing the poetic thoughts in merely two-line poetic composition.
Asked about his distinct style in Dogri poetic, Mr. Sapolia cited the examples of famous Hindi poets like Tulsi Das, Rahim and many others who excelled in couplets in Hindi. He has brought this genre to the Dogri poetry now and got high acclaim in the literary circles and a coveted award from the National Akademi of Letters.
Absorbing reading
This book containing nearly —– Dogri “Dohas” makes very absorbing reading and gives numerous thought provoking ideas on variety of subjects, flight of poet’s imagination and also real life pragmatic experiences. The couplets  are rich in Duggar’s traditions and cultural heritage.
A choice Dogri couplet follows:
“Akhar-Akhar Athroo, Akhar-Akhar Peed,
Kalamkar de Shatiya, Nit Fakondi Cheed”
(Every word brings tears, the writings cause deep pain. Fate of writer is to suffer untold intense hardships.)
Another couplet noted below will speak for its merit:
Wode Gi Keh Reordia, Jalle Gi Keh Raag,
Loole Nay Keh Nachna, Ganje De Key Bhag |
Puttar Gunia Ik Bada, Hoy Chatar Sajjan,
Chan Samane Chamkda, Channan karda Jahan |
(Toothless has no use for hard eatables, Dumb cannot sing, Lame is unable to dance; fate of bald is miserable. While the second couplet means that even a single son who is wise is quite sufficient just as one moon shines on the sky and emits light to the world.)
Sitaram Sapolia was worn to Pt Mansa Ram- Barhma Devi on November 22, 1938 at Diani in Samba district. He got his education in his native village and then completed Matriculation from Government High School, Samba during 1956. Thereafter, he started career as a teacher. It is noteworthy that he first passed Prabhakar  and later on did M.A (Hindi) and also qualified B.Ed privately. He said, he was inspired by his colleague teacher Bhanu Pratap Shastri to carry forward his education  and he gratefully remembered Mr. Shastri. He became Lecturer in a High Secondary School and retired during 1996.
Life & Work
Mr. Sapolia took to writing first in Hindi and Punjabi, mostly penning patriotic poetry. He told me that it was only during 1962 that he churned out nationalistic poetry in Dogri which got instant popularity. His first poetry book in Dogri titled: “Chete Bani Ge Geet” came out in 1988, the “Manus Moti” was published during 1992, “Mehak Phulle De” came out in 1996 and his short stories book titled: “Channani de Athroo” got published during 2006.
The Sahitya Akademi book entitled: “Doha Satsai” was published in 2010 and its forewords were written by Dr. Om Goswami, Dr. Gian Singh and a noted literary figure Prakash Premi, who highlighted the literary merit of the creative poetic compositions of Sitaram Sapolia.
“Dogri Satsai” is really worth reading for its simple and stylish language as also for depiction of Duggar’s cultural heritage. It is worth reading by all the Dogri knowing public. The author Mr. Sapolia has certainly carved out a niche for himself. This 184-page book is expected to further enrich the Dogri literature.
