Srinagar, Jan 29: Medicos in the Valley have demanded that private hospitals without infrastructure and skilled people to cater medical and surgical emergencies should be closed down.
President Doctors Association Kashmir, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, said that private hospitals in Kashmir risk patients’ lives because the private hospitals are without basic and advanced life support measures.
“No private hospital has accident and emergency unit which is mandatory for every hospital. The private hospitals lack intensive care units, ventilators, proper oxygen delivery system and proper heating system, modern diagnostic facilities like C T scan and MRI,” said Dr Hassan.
He claimed the private hospitals deal with obstetric patients without neonatal intensive care units exposing fragile babies to risk.
“They are without neonatologists and critical care specialists. The private hospitals have part time super specialists in cardiology, gastroenterology, who they borrow for few hours from Government hospitals,” he said.
He said this is unfortunate that government has licensed these private hospitals despite lack of infrastructural facilities thus endangering precious lives.

Viru, Yuvi among 11 Indians in Rs 2 cr base price bracket

Discarded veterans Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh have kept their base price in the highest bracket of Rs 2 crore for the upcoming auctions of the seventh edition of Indian Premier League.
There are 46 capped Indian players in the list of 208 international players who have enrolled for the auction. The base price for capped players (in INR) are 50 lakh, 1 crore, 1.5 crore and 2 crore respectively.
New Zealand’s Corey Anderson has kept his base price at a moderate Rs 1 crore. It is widely expected that Anderson’s price will hit the roof-top after his fastest century in ODIs and his stupendous all-round performance against India in the ongoing ODI series.
While Australian captain Michael Clarke has pulled out from the auction, Ashes Hero Mitchell Johnson’s base price is Rs 2 crore.
While Sehwag, who has been horribly out of form, has kept himself in the highest bracket, two other veterans Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra are also expecting to fetch atleast Rs 2 crore or more at the auction if one goes by their decision to keep themselves in the highest bracket. (PTI)

SVC reviews Roshini Scheme violations, verification process

JAMMU, Jan 29: State Vigilance Commission (SVC) today reviewed the progress on verification of the alleged irregularities committed in transfer of land under the Roshini Scheme at a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (JKVOJ) officers.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Kuldeep Khoda.
Vigilance Commissioners, R K.Jerath and Gousul Nisa Jeelani, besides Director State Vigilance Organisation, Sheikh Owais, IGP Vigilance Organisation, Alok Puri, Secretary State Vigilance Commission, DIG, SSP, Deputy Director Prosecution and Assistant Commissioner Revenue of Vigilance Organisation, Additional Secretary SVC, Chief Prosecuting Officer SVC & FA/CAO were present in the meeting.
It was for the second time that SIC took a review of the matter and discussed various steps taken and to be taken by the VOJK for the required verification.
The Director Vigilance Organization said that four Special Investigation Teams (SIT) each headed by SP have been constituted to work under close supervision of nodal SIT headed by DIG VOJK for speedy verification.
It was also indicated that Government (General Administration Department) has also issued instructions to all the Deputy Commissioners on January 27, 2014 for cooperating with the SITs of Vigilance Organisation to complete the verification.
DB directs CB to file status report

JAMMU, Jan 29: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation seeking attachment of property of Dutta Finance Company and others for cheating of people to the tune of Rs 50 crore, Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today directed the Crime Branch to file status report within two weeks failing which SSP Crime Branch shall remain present in person on next date of hearing.
After hearing Senior Advocate SS Lehar with Advocate Meharban Singh for the petitioners and Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State, DB observed that the earlier orders passed by this court have not been complied with by filing the status report with regard to investigation done by Crime Branch.
Upon this, Senior AAG Gagan Basotra sought some further time to do the needful. While considering the submission of Senior AAG, the DB directed that Crime Branch shall file status report within two weeks failing which the then SSP Crime Branch Jammu shall remain present in person on the next date of hearing.
Residents protest against PDD

JAMMU, Jan 29: The residents of Jammu West Assembly Constituency held a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for not redressing the rising problems of power cuts.
The protestors led by Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) president Sunil Dimple raised slogans against PDD and the concerned Minister.
Addressing the gathering, Sunil Dimple held the Chief Minister responsible for failure of the PDD Ministry and rising power cuts particularly in West Assembly constituency.
He said that MoS Power Vikar Rasool had done nothing to upgrade the power structure in the Jammu city.
He alleged the Government is discriminating with the people of the Jammu region by not implementing its policies RAPDRP under which the fresh electrification of the Jammu city will take place.
Dimple said the daily power cuts of 10 to 15 hours have made the life of the people especially students and senior citizens miserable.
He demanded installation of fresh new receiving station of 50 MVA at Janipur to over come the rising problems of power cuts.

Muslims will be more safe in BJP rule: Morcha

JAMMU, Jan 29: BJP Muslim Morcha today decided to launch a vigorous campaign for the party during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for the victory of its candidates in the State.
During the party meeting here held under the chairmanship of its convener Mushtaq Noorabadi, the Morcha accused the NC and PDP of exploiting the Muslims of the State for their vested interests. They said that the NC right from 1947 exploited the people by raising fingers on accession. This way the people were misled and youth of the Valley fell in the trap of separatists which gave a blow to age old brotherhood in Kashmir, they added.
Mr Noorabadi while making a scathing attack on the Congress and PDP leadership said they failed to do any thing practical for the upliftment of Muslims in the State.
Seeking vote for BJP he said India will emerge more stronger under the leadership of Narendra Modi and Muslims will be more safe and beneficial in the country in BJP rule.
He appealed the Morcha activists to fan out in all the Muslim dominated areas of the State to seek support of the people for the Party.
Other leaders who spoke on the occasion included Mohamed Sadiq Khan and Mohammed Salim Bhat its general secretaries, Dr Ali Mohammed BJP Central Kashmir president, Sharif Malik, Raja Riyaz, Mohammed Hanif and local BJP leader Vicky Choudhary.
Decision on fate of Uttarakhand CM soon
NEW DELHI, Jan 29:
Congress President Sonia Gandhi held a meeting with senior party leaders today amid reports that a final call on the fate of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna will be taken soon.
Party General Secretary Ambika Soni was present during the meeting besides senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Janardan Dwivedi and Ahmed Patel, Political Secretary to the Congress chief.
After the meeting, party sources said that a decision on continuance or otherwise of Bahuguna as Chief Minister will be taken soon.
Bahuguna has been under pressure ever since he was appointed. The flash floods that hit Uttarakhand last year and the massive rescue and rehabilitation work they entailed also brought his leadership skills into question.
Incidentally, delegations of MLAs and other Congress leaders from the State have been regularly meeting central party leaders in Delhi over the past six months to press for Bahuguna’s ouster.
The Congress, with 33 members in the Assembly, enjoys the support of the seven-member Progressive Democratic Front that comprises three independents, three members of the BSP and one MLA of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal. The remaining 30 MLAs are of the BJP. (PTI)
NRHM holds one-day workshop on Maternal & Child Death Review

JAMMU, Jan 29: The Mission Director NRHM, Dr Yashpal Sharma has urged for plugging of gaps in the delivery of essential services through action at various levels of the healthcare delivery system so that Maternal & Child Deaths are checked effectively in the hospitals & at community levels.
Speaking at one-day workshop on Maternal & Child Death Review organized by National Rural Health Mission J&K here at Conference Hall State Health Society, Nagrota, Dr Sharma said, that though every Maternal & Child death is an unfortunate incident, there are valuable lessons to be drawn from each such incident so that the underlying causes can be addressed through well knit healthcare delivery system, adding that the action plans and schemes under National Rural Health Mission provide reliable and assured remedial measures to check avoidable Maternal & Child Deaths.
Dr Baldev Sharma, Director Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization also addressed the participants during the inaugural session and stressed for reporting of Maternal and under 5 deaths so that the necessary corrective measures can be taken in time.
He said the purpose of workshop on Maternal & Child Review is to establish a mechanism through which all deaths are reported, investigated and then accounted for, adding that it at the same time apprises the concerned authorities at the Block and District level if there is clustering of deaths in particular villages or populations, so that the social determinants and systemic causes leading to death can be further explored and necessary actions taken through the public health system and multi sectoral convergence.
The inaugural session was followed by technical session in which detailed presentations on Maternal & Child Death Review were made by Dr Harjeet Rai, Divisional Nodal Officer Jammu, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Divisional Nodal Officer Kashmir, Dr. Younis Mushtaq Associate Programme Manager & Dr. Arshid Nazir Assistant Program Manager State Health Society. The participants were sensitized about the latest guidelines of MoH&FW, GoI on Maternal & Child Death Review and the reporting mechanism at Community as well as Facility Level.
Dhar Mahanpur residents hold protest in front of SDM office

KATHUA, Jan 29: The inhabitants of Dhar Mahanpur held a demonstration in front of SDM Office Basholi today in protest against the failure of the authorities to renovate the local roads and solve the other problems of the area.
The protestors said that the Dhar Mahanpur being the tourist destination sans basic facilities including the service road. They accused the Government of ignoring the area totally as it sans the road connectivity as people of five Panchayats comprising of 25 villages are facing acute problems of power cuts, water scarcity and lack of educational facilities.
They said the schools have shortage of staff while the ration is not available at CAPD Depots.
They also submitted a memorandum to SDM Basholi Gurmeet Singh and Tehsildar Satya Paul.
The SDM assured them that he will convene the meeting of all departments of tehsil Basholi on February 7 with the representatives of the people from the area to sort out the problems.
