Chhewang meets Gadkari, raises people’s issues in LS

JAMMU, June 10: A delegation led by Thupstan Chhewang, Member of Parliament today called on Nitin Gatkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and Shipping, and submitted a memorandum regarding expeditious completion of Nyemo-Padum-Darcha road, which is being constructed by Border Roads Organization.
Leading the delegation to the Union Minister Member Parliament Thupstan Chhewang lamented that the Chadar Road Project is presently being funded under Prime Minister’s State Reconstruction Plan and the pace of work on the project is extremely slow and would take ages to complete. “Since the project is very important and would provide an alternative rout to link Ladakh with Himachal, which is required to be accorded due priority. This can only be done if this road is upgraded as National Highway, ha added”.
Taking serious note of the recommendations, the Vajpayee Government issued prompt ordered to conduct survey and surveillance to explore the possibilities of such road. As such reconnaissance and detailed survey along the different alignments of rugged Great Himalayan Mountain ranges were conducted.
He demanded release of fund for Suru-Padum National Highway.
Mr Thustan also raided the issues of people of Ladakh in Lok Sabha during its first day today. Raising the basic grievances of the people of Ladakh region regarding Tele-Communication said “Mobile equipment capacity in both Leh & Kargil district has become saturated. He said number of mobile connections are more than 1 lakh whereas capacity mobile equipment only 80,000 which has resulted in deterioration of mobile service in Ladakh region.
To overcome this problem more mobile equipment such as MSC, BSC, and BTS towers are required in the existing service area. Secondly, Leh-Srinagar telecom transmission line equipment capacity has also become saturated which has resulted in deterioration of mobile and broadband service.
Transition line equipment capacity is urgently required to be upgraded with higher capacity equipments such as DWDM. Thirdly, capacity of many mobile BTS tower has become saturated in Leh & Kargil town resulting in serious congestion problem.
He said more towers are required in Leh & Kargil town to remove mobile traffic congestion problem.
Fourthly, GPRS service in Ladakh region is very poor. GPRS service is required to be improved by enhancing GPRS capacity. Lastly, around 117 village hamlets are having no means of telecommunication at present.
Since these 117 hamlets are not feasible through other telecom technologies such as landline, mobile, WLL etc. DSPT under USO fund may be provided.

Kashmiri Pandits’ delegations call on Bakaya

Srinagar, June 10: Various delegations of Kashmiri Pandits called on NC leader and MLC Vijay Bakaya and apprised him of their demands.
Vijay Bakaya assured the delegations that National Conference was and will always be a well-wisher of the minority community and is committed to addressing their genuine demands.
A delegation of employees selected under the PM’s package for Migrants and residing at Sheikhpura Budgam demanded for up-gradation of facilities so that their living conditions could be improved. The delegation pointed out that there were some discrepancies in the allotment of residential flats to employees who were selected under the PM’s Package, especially those who have dependents and families with them. The delegation referred to the orders of the High Court through which directions have been issued for the allotment of suitable accommodation to migrant employees.
Mr. Bakaya, in the light of these basic problems of living conditions being faced by the migrant employees in Sheikhpora and other places, urged the Government to take a compassionate view in the matter and adjust every family comfortably so that their right to privacy is respected. He urged the concerned departments and officers to undertake verification on a priority basis and order adjustment as per rational and humanitarian norms.

Drug Control Org, CTD seize intoxicants worth Rs 1.75 lakh

KATHUA, June 10: Drugs and Food Control Organization along with Commercial Tax Department seized big consignment of intoxicants from a truck.
An official spokesman said that, on specific inputs, the sleuths of Drugs and Food Control Organization along with Commercial Tax Department intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK13B-5420.
During checking, large quantity of intoxicants worth Rs 1.75 lakh was found in the vehicle which was seized on Form 16 under the Provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules. The driver of the truck managed to escape from the spot.
The presence of the vehicle owner namely Manzoor Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Ahmad Mir of Pampora was caused and all the legal procedure was carried out in his presence.
Drug Inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad has initiated detailed investigation under relevant provisions of the Act and Rules and the particulars of the parties/persons responsible for supplying these intoxicating drugs are likely to surface in due course of time.
As mandated under Law the Competent Court of Law has been informed about the incident. The Assistant Drugs Controller, Samba-Kathua, Munish Gupta is personally monitoring the progress of the investigation.
Deputy Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organization, Jammu, Lotika Khajuria has warned the nefarious elements involved in drug mafia to desist from such acts failing which be ready for harsh regulatory action.

2 candidates withdraw from CCI elections

JAMMU, June 10: Two candidates have withdrawn their candidature from the elections of the executive body of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry today.
According to Election Commission, two members- Jagdish Langer and Bhuvneshwar Gandotra withdrawn their nominations from the contest. Today was the last date of the withdrawal of the nominations. Now, only 14 members are left in the fray for the elections to the executive body of CCI, Jammu.

2 real brothers among 3 get life imprisonment in murder case

JAMMU, June 10: Principal Sessions Judge Poonch Jaffer Hussain Beigh today awarded life-imprisonment to two real brothers namely Pervez Ahmed and Farooq Ahmed and Shamim Akhter, wife of Farooq Ahmed for committing murder of a woman Shamim Akhter by administering poison on October 22, 2011.
While awarding life-imprisonment, the court observed, “for awarding death penalty, the rarest of rare case comes when a convict would be a menace and threat to the harmonious and peaceful coexistence of the society”.
“The circumstance and the manner of committing the crime should be such that it pricks the judicial conscience of the court to the extent that the only and inevitable conclusion should be awarding of death penalty which in my opinion does not arise in the instant case”, Principal Sessions Judge said.
“The instant case does not fall within the category of rarest of rare case and accordingly sentence each of the accused, namely, Pervez Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed and Shamim Akhtar to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life and also to pay a fine of Rs 7000 for the commission of offence under Section 302 RPC is sufficient”, the court said.

Bhalessa XI, New Star Chakka script emphatic wins

BHADARWAH, June 10:  Bhalessa XI and New Star Chakka registered resounding wins over their rivals to advance into the next round of the ongoing 2nd Edition of Champions Trophy T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhadarwah, under the aegis of the Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) and Youth Combined Cricket Club Bhadarwah at Degree College Ground, here.
Earlier, in the first match, Bhalessa XI defeated Bunzwa Stars by a narrow margin of 16 runs in a well fought contest. Batting first, Bhalessa XI scored a decent total of 156 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Junaid and Arafat contributed 37 and 33 runs to the total respectively. For Bunzwa Stars, Rashid was the pick of the bowlers who claimed 3 important wickets.
In reply, Bunzwa Stars managed to score 140 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 5 wickets, thus lost the match by 16 runs. Gulzar was the top scorer with 48 runs, while Ashraf contributed 36 runs to the total. For Bhalessa XI, Shafqat and Arafat bagged 2 wickets each. Arafat was declared Bajaj Allianz man of the match for his all-round performance.
In another match, New Star Chakka drubbed Gazi Cricket Club Doda by a big margin of 47 runs in an easy contest. Bating first, New Star Chakka scored a fighting total of 138 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 8 wickets. Munazar (46) and Sonu 26 were the main contributors. For Gazi Club Doda, Sandeep and Yawar Ali scalped 2 wickets each.
In reply, Gazi Club bundled out for a paltry total of 91 runs in 16 overs, thus lost the match by 47 runs. Manyal and Jaffar scored 20 and 17 runs respectively. For New Star Chakka, Aquib captured 3 wickets, while Sonul and Munazar took 2 wickets each. For his superb all-round show, Munazar was declared Bajaj Allianz man of the match.
The matches were officiated by Usman and Babar Mughal as umpires, while Saisal was the scorer.
Sameer Shoket Malik, Video Analyst BCCI is the convener of the Tournament, while the organizing committee included Zaheer Khan, chief organizer, Touqeer Bhagwan, Babar Mughal, Irfan Shapoo, Zair Sheikh and Muzzafar Hussain.

One yr RI to store-keeper in corruption case

JAMMU, June 10: Special Judge Anticorruption CBI cases, Kaneez Fatima today awarded one-year imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 to Roop Singh, the then store-keeper in Garrison Engineering Wing, after 18 years long investigation and trial.
According to the CBI case, on July 31, 1997 Roop Singh along with other officials entered into criminal conspiracy and misappropriated 13988.77 Kgs of iron, 29 kilograms of cooper and 2 kilograms of brass scrap worth Rs 73043, Accordingly, a case was registered and after completion of investigation challan was presented.
After hearing Special PP KS Pathania appearing for the CBI, Special Judge Anticorruption observed, “accused is found guilty of offence under Section 409 RPC and 5(2) read with Section 5(1) (d) of J&K PC Act”.
Accordingly, Court awarded one year rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000.

Two SPs posted in SVO

JAMMU, June 10: The Government today ordered transfer and postings of two Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO).
Altaf Ahmad Shah, Commandant, Indian Reserve Police (IRP), 8th battalion and Mohammad Majid Malik, Deputy Commandant in IRP 19th battalion, have been transferred and posts as SPs in the SVO.
An order to this effect was issued today by the General Administration Department.

ReTs appeal Edu Minister to raise their demands in Cabinet

SRINAGAR, June 10: Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) Teachers’ Forums today appealed Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Tara Chand to raise their issues in the Cabinet meeting.
The ReT body met the Minister and officials regarding their demands like inclusion of five years service and transfer policy.
“DyCM assured us that transfer policy will be framed likewise male teachers will be transferred within zone and female teacher within district,” Farooq Ahmad Tantray, ReT State president said.
He said that the inclusion of five years as ReT into the service records was their longest demand, as it would help them in future for seniority benefits.
An apex body of Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) Teachers’ Forums of Jammu also appealed Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand to raise these important issues in Cabinet meeting.
ReT Forum State president, Jammu Division, Vinod Sharma said the decision would benefit eight thousand teachers who have been playing an important role in providing primary education in remotest areas of the State. “We have played an important role in opening new schools, increasing literacy rate and minimizing dropouts in far flung areas of the state,” he said.

Youth dies under mysterious circumstances

JAMMU, June 10: An unidentified youth died under mysterious circumstances in Rajinder Park, falling under the jurisdiction of Canal Road police post.
As per police sources, a 24-year-old youth was found unconscious in Rajinder Park near Canal Road.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and shifted the youth to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he failed to respond to the treatment and died.
The body has been shifted to mortuary of GMCH for identification.
A case in this regard stands registered at Canal Road police post and investigations started.
