JAMMU, Apr 4: A meeting of the All J&K Scheduled Caste Backward Classes (SCBC) Youth Welfare Forum was held here, today under the chairmanship of Charan Dass Nagelia its State chairman.
The meeting discussed various points which include payment of relief to the people whose crops were damaged due to heavy rains. It demanded regularization of daily wagers, appointment of unemployed youth on vacant posts in various Government departments, enhancement of salaries of SPOs, immediate renovation of roads in rural areas, release of ration for BPL and APL categories besides settling of other demands of the people.

JAMMU, Apr 4: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) booked six mutton sellers for overcharging.
According to a handout issued by the Department, a special squad comprising of Deputy Controller Legal Metrology SS Lab, Jammu, Inspector Legal Metrology, Jammu Upper and Lower headed by Joint Controller, Legal Metrology Jammu conducted inspection of the mutton sellers on the complaint of people.
During inspections, it was observed that the meat sellers are charging Rs 340-Rs 360 against the approved rates of Rs 280.
The team booked six mutton sellers namely M/s Pakiza Halal Meat Shop, M/s Bismillah Halal Meat Shop, Janipur Road, M/s Pakeeza Halal Meat Shop, M/s Mashi Meat Shop, M/s Dilbar Halal Meat Shop, Poonch House, Talab Tillo, M/s Farooq Meat Shop, Panama Chowk.
The team asked them to get their cases compounded on April 7 failing which cases will be referred to the Court of Law.

JAMMU, Apr 4: Additional Director General of Police Headquarters, (ADGP) S P Vaid today visited various police establishments in the summer capital to assess the situation caused due to heavy rains.
Mr Vaid accompanied by senior police officers, visited Police Headquarters (PHQ) at Pirbagh and took stock of the arrangements made for the opening of Darbar. He asked to take all required measures to make PHQ functional so that the routine work resumes on the scheduled date.
The ADGP also visited CID Headquarters near Emporium Garden, Police Control Room, Police Hospital Batmaloo, Police Public School, Police Housing Colony Bemina and various city police stations, which had come under waters in the recent flood like situation.
He enquired from the concerned about the damages caused to these establishments and asked to make efficient and effective measures for dewatering from the premises of these establishments. He was told that Jawans and officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police, besides remaining active with the civil administration to evacuate the people to safer places, saved the records and property of the department. Timely action was taken to shift the records and moveable properties to safer places to ensure their safety, the ADGP was told.
Mr. Vaid stressed upon the officers to make all police establishments functional immediately so that the normal policing does not affect. He said that last year floods have served a lesson to take safety and precautionary measures to save the properties from any damages during such situations. He said that the heavy rains in the Valley had created a flood like situation, causing panic among the people. Our jawans and officers showed a great professionalism and dedication in evacuating the people from the submerged areas to safer places without wasting time.
UDHAMPUR, Apr 4: In a tragic incident, one minor girl died after falling into a deep gorge from a hill top at village Pattan in Basantgarh.
According to the reports, Shakti Devi (17) daughter of Bodh Raj of Pattan Ghar in Basantgarh, who had gone to the mountainous belt in Basantgarh area of the district along with four to five women to collect fire wood, slipped from the mountain top and fell into a deep gorge.
In the incident, she died on the spot. The body has been recovered and sent to PHC Pattan for post-mortem. Basantghar police has registered a case in this regard and started investigation.
PCC chief GA Mir during talking to flood hit people in Kashmir on Saturday.
SRINAGAR, Apr 4: PCC president Gh. Ahmad Mir has expressed his concern over the deteriorated condition of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, resulting in great hardships and inconvenience to the passengers.
In a press statement Mr Mir said the highway remains closed for weeks together causing shortage of essentials in the Kashmir division besides halting business activities.
While ridiculing the present Coalition Government for its poor traffic management, the PCC chief said that bad road condition has turned the National Highway into a death trap where number of precious lives get killed with every passing day at an alarming rate. Besides worst ever road condition, there is hue and cry about the allegations of rampant corruption by the cops manning the highway which becomes the main cause of tragic road accidents and there is no response from the Government except issuing condolence messages for those being killed ruthlessly now almost every day, Mir added.
Castigating the present Govt for its utter failure to arrange adequate funds for renovation of the highway in a time bound manner and in regulating the traffic movement on this lone surface link between Kashmir division and rest of the country, Mr Mir said that the stranded passengers in Jammu and Srinagar have been put to great inconvenience. He said the stranded passengers at various places are in miserable condition without food and shelter adding that there is no one in sight from the Government to take their care. Mr Mir has ridiculed the Govt for utterly failing to prevent road accidents on Jammu-Kishtwar -Doda and Jammu -Rajouri- Poonch Highways also adding that these roads have become death traps for passengers. He said hapless passengers are scared to travel on these roads.
Meanwhile, PCC president visited the affected family of Laden Chrar-i-Sharief, who lost their 16 family members after getting buried alive in debris due to land erosion very recently and offered his condolences to bereaved family and sympathized with them. He said his heart goes out for those who lost their precious lives in this accident and termed this incident very unfortunate and painful. He met the family members of deceased and consoled them, assured them that Congress party will fight for their rehabilitation and compensation.
Earlier Mr Mir briefed AICC president Sonia Gandhi about the prevailing situation and loss of precious lives in Jammu and Kashmir, due to land erosion and incessant rains. Mrs Gandhi expressed deep shock and grief over loss of lives and property and offered her condolences to the bereaved families.

KATHUA, Apr 4: The farmers of border area held a massive demonstration here today demanding compensation for the standing crops of wheat and oil seeds which were damaged in heavy rains and hail storm.
The protestors demanded that the Revenue Department and Agriculture Department should constitute the teams to assess the losses of farmers whose standing crops were perished completely due to heavy rains and hail storm.
The protestors also decried the stoic silence maintained by the Government over the issue and said that it should immediately announce compensation for farmers whose entire crop has been damaged.

KATHUA, Apr 4: A doctor was found absent during surprise visit by the Tehsildar during inspection in various Government offices at Dinga Amb tehsil headquarters.
Official sources said that on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Tehsildar Dinga Amb, R P Sharma conducted surprise checking in various Government offices at the Tehsil headquarters on Friday. At Primary Health Centre (PHC), he found Dr Ram Dhan, engaged under NRHM, absent from duty. He called the explanation of the doctor and recommended action against him to the DC Kathua and CMO. Tehsildar also paid visit to some other offices and warned staff to ensure maximum presence in the office. He further told the employees that DC was monitoring attendance in the offices on daily basis now.

JAMMU, Apr 4: Glowing tributes were paid today to National Conference leader and patron Sheikh Nazir Ahmed on Chehlam, the 40th day ceremony after his demise, with senior leaders recalling his great contribution towards political empowerment and overall upliftment of the people in the State.
At a specially held function at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here this morning, senior leaders including legislators, former ministers, ex-legislators and the party functionaries pledged to carry forward the mission of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, which was nurtured by Sheikh Nazir with a sense of commitment.
Leading those paying homage to the late leader, the additional general secretary Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal described Sheikh Nazir as a man of principle and commitment, who strived hard all his life to ameliorate the lot of poor and down trodden.

He sought immediate airlifting of stranded passengers in Madwah-Wadwan area of the Kishtwar district.
