Srinagar, Feb 11: The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) today won chairperson and vice-chairperson posts in District Development Council (DDC) elections in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Muhammad Yousuf Gorsi, who was elected DDC member on National Conference (NC) ticket from Pahalgam seat, was elected as chairman and Advocate Javaid Sheikh of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was elected as vice-chairman.

PAGD candidates were backed by Congress party’s DDC members as well. Both Gorsi and Advocate Javaid Sheikh got 11 votes each.
Gorsi thanked voters and DDC candidates for helping him to become first DDC chairman of Anantnag. He said that he will try to deliver as per the expectations of the people. “My main focus will be development of the district especially those areas where it is lacking”, he said.
Advocate Javaid Sheikh said that they will take Anantnag to new developmental heights during the next five years.
Among 14 seats in Anantnag, six were won by NC, three each by Congress and independents and two by PDP.
DDC members who won on NC ticket include Sameena Hussain from Achabal, Muneera Akhther from Breng, Nisar Ahmad Mir from Dachnipora, Misra Begum from Khoveripora, Mohammad Yousuf Gorsi from Pahalgam and Saleem Parry from Sagam while as two PDP winning candidates include Advocate Sheikh Javaid Ahmad from Anantnag and Tasaduq Hussain from Bijbehara
Akhter Hussain Kasana from Hiller, Shabir Ahmad Dar from Shahabad and Sabhat Gulzar from Shangus won on Congress ticket and Shahbaz Peer from Verinag, Bilal Deva from Vessu and Sajida Begum from Larnoo won as Independents.
The PAGD has now got chairpersons and vice chairpersons in four districts of Ganderbal, Anatnang, Kulgam and Pulwama. They are likely to get from two more, Baramulla and Bandipora.
