‘Padmavati Parinayotsavam’ in Tirumala from May 17

TIRUMALA (Andhra Pradesh), May 7 : The three-day annual  ”Padmavati Parinayotsavam” will be observed at the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara here from May 17.

The celestial wedding ceremony of Sridevi, Bhudevi and Srinivasa are being performed with great pomp at the Parinayotsava Mandapam in the Narayangiri Gardens every year.

In the three-day event, Malayappa Swamy will be worshipped on Gajavahanam on the first day, on horse-carrier on the second day, and on Garuda Vahanam on the last day.

TTD has cancelled Arjita Brahmotsavam and Sahasra Deepalankara sevas on these three days.

According to the Puranas, about five thousand years ago, that is, in the early days of Kali Yuga, Sri Maha Vishnu came to earth as Sri Venkateswara from Vaikuntam.

At that time Akasharaja, who was ruling Narayanavana, gave his daughter goddess Padmavati  to Lord Venkateswara for marriage.

Sri Venkatachala Mahatyam states that Akasharaja performed divine wedding in Narayanavanam on Vaishaka Shuddha Dashami in the advent of Phalguni Nakshatra.

TTD organizes the Padmavati Parinayotsavam for three days, one day before and one day after every Vaisakh Shuddha Dashami Tithi to mark the auspicious occasion of the wedding of Padmavati with Srinivasa.

This festival has been in vogue since 1992.

Marking the significance of Narayanavanam where the wedding of Sri Padmavati Srinivasa took place in those days, TTD celebrates Sri Padmavati Parinayotsavam in Narayanagiri Gardens at Tirumala. (UNI)
