JAMMU, Dec 21: While package employees continues their protest in front of Jammu Press Club to express their anger over the statement of Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha clearing the Government stand that the salaries of package employees will not be released till they join their duties in Kashmir, various KP bodies have also expressed their ire against the statement.
The protesting employees marched to Press Club from Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner’s Office and held a massive demonstration in protest. With placards and banners in their hands they raised slogans against the Government decision and said that under the prevailing circumstances and increasing TRF threats they can’t join their services in Valley.
Expressing concern over the apathy of the Government towards package employees and other minority community employees working in Valley, they said this way the Government was sending them in the jaws of death. “We have never refused to serve in Valley as we have been doing this for last over 10 years now but under the prevailing circumstances when the minorities have been made safe targets by the militants we can’t put our and our families to risk,” said one of the protesting employee.
He said “Instead of taking care of our security the Government was talking in an irresponsible manner and coercing us to serve in a hostile environment is a human rights violation”, he added.
Meanwhile, various KP and other political organizations have expressed their serious concern over the statement of the Lt Governor on package and reserved category employees.
Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) president Kundan Kashmiri said the statement is totally unfortunate. He said instead of releasing the salaries of these employees and accepting their demand the LG has issued stern warning to them without considering that they are being issued threat warrants by name every day.
He said the Government instead of acting strongly against the TRF and other outfits issuing death warrants to package employees by name is forcing them to be scapegoats which the community will not allow.
He made an appeal to PM Modi and HM Amit Shah to look into the matter as the community has lost total confidence in the present regime. He urged all the KP leaders and organizations to be united on this issue.
Spokesperson, JK National United Front (JKNUF) Rakesh Handoo took BJP to task and alleged that it has betrayed the entire Kashmir Pandit community. The statement of LG on 5000 KP employees is criminal apathy of the Government towards the exiled community whom it failed to protect in Kashmir. He said JKNUF condemns this insensitive statement especially in view of the repeated threats being given by TRF to package employees by name.
Prabhari Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Kashmir Displaced people has also expressed his resentment and shock over the statement.
He said instead of assessing the ground realities and situation the LG has acted in haste and his statement has betrayed over five lakh Kashmiri Pandits. Instead of looking into the plight of the community the ordeal through they are going for last 34 years of displacement the UT administration was rubbing salt on their wounds, he added.
