NEW DELHI, Apr 23:
The Delhi High Court today dismissed the petition of noted International Environmentalist and former Director General (DG) of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), R K Pachauri, alleged accused in a sexual harassment case, who sought permission to travel to Greece.
While dismissing Pachauri’s petition, Justice S P Garg said, “You (Pachauri) should have approached us well within time, as you had the information of the event since June 2014.’’ ‘’When the Sessions Court had imposed certain conditions while granting bail, you should have informed and moved the same court then and there.,’’ Judge Garg felt.
After the court dismissed Pachauri’s petition, Prashant Mendiratta lawyer of the victim, told UNI that the court did not find any merit in Pachauri’s petition. “My case is very strong against Pachauri. The charges levelled against him were serious in nature,” Mendiratta said.
Pachauri had moved the Delhi High court seeking permission to travel to Greece from April 26 to 29 for the Global Water Summit.
Pachauri had to move the High Court after the Saket Court Metropolitan Magistrate could not hear his plea due to lawyers’ strike.
Pachauri was earlier granted anticipatory bail on March 21 but was directed not to leave the country without court’s permission. He was also directed by the court not to visit the premises of TERI.
Pachauri has, however, denied the allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by the victim, who was also working in TERI. (UNI)
