PAC expresses concern over lapses in implementation of MGNREGA

SRINAGAR, July 29: A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLA, Muzaffar Hussain Baig to examine the reply of Rural Development Department in the light of Audit Paras of CAG’s Report for the year 2011.
The Members of the PAC who were present in the meeting included, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Abdul Gani Malik, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Nasir Aslam Wani, Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, Showkat Hussain Ganai and M. M Parrey.
The Committee examined the reply of various queries raised during its previous meeting and expressed displeasure for certain lapses in the effective implementation of Central Government’s flagship programme MGNREGA on ground. The Committee also expressed its concern over the lukewarm attitude of the department towards implementing the decisions of SEGC, the Statuary Body constituted for the purpose under the MGNREGA Act.
The Committee directed the officers to take all necessary measures to implement the scheme in its letter and spirit to achieve the objective of the programme so that the benefits percolate down to the needy.
The officers assured the Committee to plug the gaps for effective implementation of scheme to achieve the mandate of the flagship programme for the targeted population.
Commissioner Secretary RDD, Farooq Ahmad Peer, Commissioner/ Secretary Agriculture Production, Asgar Samoon, Commissioner/ Secretary Science and Technology, Bipul Pathak, Secretary Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Ramzan, senior officers of Rural Development Department, Forest and Horticulture were also present in the meeting.
