Bridegroom caste vote before marriage

SAMBA, Oct 13: What can be more overwhelming response and enthusiasm of people to ongoing Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in the State, that a bridegroom in full wedding dress preferred to visit his polling booth first to cast his vote before leaving to his in-laws house for solemnization of marriage ceremony in Samba Municipal Committee elections today.
Not only this but the old and infirm people including some octogenarians and many differently abled persons came to polling stations to cast their vote and fulfill their obligation to strengthen the basic institutes of democracy in the State.
While the old and infirm people were brought to their respective polling stations by their children or relatives, the differently bled persons came on crutches from their residential houses to fulfill their commitment to the democracy of the country and give a befitting reply to saboteurs who in one or other form tried their best to denigrate the democratic institutions in the State.
As per reports, a bridegroom in his full wedding dress carrying the traditional sword on his shoulders came to polling Station housed in Government Primary School Kargal in Bari Brahmana, Municipal Committee to cast his vote. Shambu Ram, son of Kaku Ram polled his vote at polling Station which was stationed in Government PS, Kagral.
Considering casting of vote more important in his life, Ram left for his in-laws house for solemnization of his marriage ceremony after casting his vote first.
The people showed such an innate commitment to democracy during ULB elections in Samba district that an 85 year old paralytic patient, Ram Ji was brought by his son on his back to a Polling Station in Ward No 3 Samba to cast his vote.
Satya Devi, an octogenarian lady was also brought to her Polling Station in Ward No 15 Thalora Mandi, Samba by her son to cast her vote. Some differently abled voters at various polling stations were seen coming on crutches and tricycles to cast their vote and fulfill their obligation in a democracy.
Almost at all polling stations the voters were seen in long queues from early in the morning to cast their vote. Though polling started at 6 am sharp, the voters were seen waiting before various polling stations prior to that for casting their vote. There was a festive look in front of polling booths all over in the district.
Vinod Kumar , son of Madan Lal was the first person to cast his vote at Polling Booth No 11 at Bari Brahmana while Mangal Dass, Son of Karam Chand of Ward No 12 was the first person to cast his vote at the polling booth in his Ward.
In Ramgarh, Mohan Lal , son of Tej Ram of Ramgarh was the first person who polled his vote at a Polling Booth in Ward No 6. In Vijaypur , Harbans Lal of Ward No 9 was the first person to cast his vote in the local polling booth.
Eighty two year old Gian Chand did not lag behind and came by foot traveling a distance of about one km to cast his vote at a Polling Booth in Ward No 6 of Ramgarh.
The polling in entire district went peacefully during the day, though the authorities had also made elaborate security arrangements to avert any untoward incident.
One person was arrested by police for casting fake vote. Police said that one person Devinder Kumar , S/o Tara Chand of Morh Vijaypur polled a fake vote in the name of Nitish Mahajan , son of Sushil Mahajan of Ward No 10, Vijaypur. He was caught by the police on the spot and arrested.
