Decline in dengue cases, 62 found positive so far this year: Dy Dir Health

JAMMU, Oct 13: Appealing people to remain alert and stay aware, Deputy Director (Headquarter) Health Services, Jammu today claimed that there is sharp decline in cases of dengue and so far in 2018, only 62 cases were found positive across Jammu region.
“As compared to 2017 when dengue cases were reported 307, this year so far, 62 cases were found positive in Jammu region,” Dr Chander Prakash, Deputy Director (Headqu-arter) Health Services, Jammu told reporters. He said that out of these 62 positive cases, nine patients were those who carried the epidemic from outside the State.

Giving district wise details of the dengue affected people, Dr Chander said 33 cases (18 males and 15 females) have been reported from Jammu, 15 ( 8 males and 7 females) from Kathua and 7 from Samba (4 males and 3 females) while one each has been reported from Kishtwar, Udhampur, Rajouri, Reasi, Poonch and Kashmir.
“All the patients who were tested positive of Dengue, are healthy and in good condition,” said the doctor. He said that Jammu, Samba and Kathua as compared to other hilly belts of Jammu region are more prone to epidemic due to industrial areas. “Due to large set up of industries in these district, the water remains stagnant, contaminated which invites mosquitoes and also the disease,” he added.
He further said that people are getting aware and have started following “Swachhta Abhiyan”, which is one of the main reasons of declining number of dengue cases. The Deputy Director added that there is nothing to panic as awareness, preventive measures and clean surroundings can stop the disease from spreading further.
