Over a dozen cases of bank dacoities took place in J&K in 2016-17: Govt

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday said that more than one dozen cases of bank dacoities took place in the state in 2016-17.

“Around 13 cases of bank dacoities have taken place during the year 2016-17 in which an amount of Rs 1,13,05,144 was looted out of which an amount of Rs 1,99,000 was recovered during the period,” Minister In-charge Home Mehbooba Mufti said in a written reply to the question raised by the BJP MLC Vikram Randhawa.

She further said that FIRs had been lodged in all the cases and the investigation was going on adding, “in one case challan has also been produced before the court of law against the five accused persons.”

The Government also replied that for the last three years, 35 Ak rifles were snatched and 23 recovered, 44 Insas were snatched and 25 recovered, all four snatched carbines were recovered, 43 SLR weapons were snatched and 10 recovered, one LMG was snatched and recovered, 12 pistols were snatched and six recovered, one pica gun was snatched and recovered, two UMGs were snatched and recovered, one Ak 41 rifle was snatched but not recovered while 102 tear shells/grenades were snatched.

“As many as 90 accused persons were also arrested in this period in snatching cases,” said the Minister.

The Government said that Departmental action had also been initiated against those policemen who were not alert when the weapons were snatched.
