Over 45 structures gutted in Parimpora

Srinagar, Oct 7: At least 45 houses were damaged in a massive blaze that broke out in Parimpora area of Srinagar today.
Officials told Excelsior that 45-50 wooden structures including some single-storeyed houses in the area got damaged in the blaze which started around afternoon and was brought under control after strenuous efforts.
The officials said that the colony being highly congested resulted in the quick spread of the fire, while the cause of the fire has not been ascertained so far.
“It was coupled with the multiple domestic LPG cylinders blasts that made the fire fighting a bit difficult,” the officials said.
It was after the rigorous efforts for hours that the fire was finally brought under control by the firefighters; however, till then the damage was done.
Officials said that 16 fire tenders were pressed into services to bring the fire under control, however, they said, the rescue operation was hampered due to the needless interference by the crowd that had gathered at the blaze site.
They also said that some miscreants attacked the fire-fighting personnel with bricks due to which few firefighters were injured as well.
The entire operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Deputy Director Srinagar, Divisional Fire officer City, while as Fire Station Headquarters, Gowkadel. Safa Kadal. Mujgund, Rawalpora, Rangrate. M. A. Road, S. H. Pore Mujgund were pressed into service.
The traffic along Srinagar-Baramulla remained disrupted for about 4 hours. There was huge traffic jams and Police was missing even road to SKIMS hospital Bemina remained blocked leading to problems for critical patients.
