Over 1000 perform darshan

JAMMU, Aug 5: Over one thousand pilgrims drawn from different parts of the country performed darshan of naturally formed Ice Lingam in holy cave of Shri Amarnath Ji situated in snow bound Himalayas in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on the 37th day of pilgrimage from twin tracks of Baltal Dumel and Nunwan Chandanwari by this evening.
According to officials, 1010 pilgrims performed darshan of Ice Lingam in holy cave by this evening taking the total number of yatris who visited cave shrine since June 30 this year to 2,89,244. It may be recalled that till yesterday evening 2,88,234 pilgrims had performed darshan in the holy cave.
Officials said that there is no rush at base camps as few hundred pilgrims are staying at twin base camps for night. They said the weather remained cloudy in holy cave area during the day and it rained for some time also but the yatra plied smoothly from both the tracks and there was no disturbance in its movement.
The silver mace of Lord Shiva commonly known as Chhari Mubarak will leave for annual pilgrimage of holy cave from its abode Dashnami Akhara Srinagar on August 7 and after paying obeisance at different temples enroute including historic Durga Nag Temple in Srinagar Kashmir it will reach Pahalgam on the same day evening where from it will leave for next sojourn after a halt of two nights i.e on August 9.
Over 180 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas for twin base camps of 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas, early this morning, officials said.
A total of 183 pilgrims left in 36th batch from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas here in a convoy of eight vehicles amid heavy security of CRPF this morning, the officials said.
They said that 62 pilgrims heading for Baltal were the first to leave the Bhagwati Nagar camp in three vehicles followed by the second convoy of five vehicles carrying 121 pilgrims for Pahalgam.
These pilgrims will leave for holy cave from their respective base camps early tomorrow morning.
The yatra was stopped at Ramban earlier due to landslide on National Highway but later after clearing the Highway it was allowed to proceed further, officials said.
