Nothing would be more farcical than the political rivalry bedeviling the initiative for constructing Chhajla Bridge in Mendher. It is almost a decade that talks about building this vital bridge to connect villages in Mankote with a population of more than twenty thousand souls have been making rounds among administrative, engineering and political circles in the State but without any concrete result. Three times foundation stone for the construction of the bridge has been laid by three different persons belonging to three different political parties. Each of these parties wants to steal the show and assign the credit of building the bridge to itself. Nobody thinks of the people, the State and the country.
Nobody thinks how much the people suffer for want of a bridge and how callously political class is overlooking their suffering. Political leaders with vested interest mislead the people, the administration and the Government. How can we move forward with such myopic, selfish and self-seeking leadership at the helm of affairs? Why does the Government allow each and sundry change its considered decision and policy? Is this State run by the MLAs or engineers and show boys or by centralized and systematized administrative machinery where each nut and each bolt has its specific duty to perform? The Government must issue strict instructions that nobody will be allowed to interfere in the developmental works that have been approved in the formal meetings of District Development Boards and for which funds have also been sanctioned. This aberration has to be rectified and damage has to be controlled.
