Sir,
This refers to article titled “Why we need organic milk and meat” (DE Jan 25th 2018) by Dr Mandeep Azad and Dr Manmeet Motan. I congratulate the authors for highlighting this important issue. In-fact in past I too have written few articles on the same topic. My piece “Why not produce organic milk “ was published in Daily Excelsior on Nov 10th 2017.
Milk obtained from majority of the cows and buffaloes in our state is not at all organic as our cattle are fed with fodder which is completely contaminated with chemical fertilizers. Our agriculture land , apple orchards etc get several pesticide sprays right from spring to autumn months . The fodder obtained like wheat , bersem, oats , maize etc is directly affected with the harmful chemicals. When the cattle take this poisonous fodder , it results in the production of milk which contains toxins and harmful chemicals. Same is the case with poultry birds who are given several dozes of antibiotics and growth hormones. The meat obtained from these poultry birds causes severe ailments which we do not notice at all. Unfortunately this activity is not at all being checked by Govt. Neither the health department nor the poultry experts from Animal Husbandry Department are conducting inspection of poultry farms across the State.
Yours etc….
