JAMMU, July 13: Congress and some Independent Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today have demanded resumption of the already sanctioned pension and abolition of Property Tax in J&K.

Addressing a press conference Dwarka Chowdhary, Chief Whip of Congress in the House of elected Councillors said it would be near to impossible for the elders at the fag-end of their lives to get their pension cases verified again so their pensions should be resumed immediately.
He informed that the Congress and Independent Councillors of JMC have also written a letter to PM Modi and J&K LG stating that the Mayor deliberately scraps their resolutions from the business of General House Meeting which is against the ethos of a democracy.
Expressing similar concern Gorav Chopra, senior DPAP leader said that the delegation led by Mayor which met LG few days back had no opposition member.
“The Mayor only took his trusted Councillors as many of the BJP Councilors have earlier addressed a press conference at a reputed Club in Jammu demanding resumption of pensions for widows, old age and physically challenged persons,” he maintained adding that befooling of the innocent people should be stopped.
Chopra also spoke against the installation of Smart and Pre-paid Meters for recording electricity consumption in Jammu.
Inder Singh Soodan, Independent Councillor also spoke on the occasion and said that pensions to the widows, old age persons and physically challenged persons should be resumed without any delay.
Independent Councillors-Amit Mahajan and Prof. Yudhvir Singh; Congress Councillors-Rajni Bala, Inderjeet Kour Randhawa and Bhanu Mahajan were also present in the press conference.
