The police yesterday found the body of the minor girl, Rafiqa near the jungles at Rasana village of Hiranagar.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed anguish over the “gruesome” killing of the girl and said that the guilty would be punished.
“Outraged by the heinous incident in which a young Bakerwal girl has lost her life. Incidents like this will be investigated expeditiously & the guilty will be punished,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter. As the House assembled, the opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress MLAs and lone PDF legislator Hakim Mohammad Yasin stood up to protest against the suspected killing of the girl and demanded a reply from the Government.
Congress MLAs and former Ministers including GM Saroori and Waqar Rasool said the girl has been brutally killed and demanded Government statement on the issue. They wanted to know what the police was doing for the past one week as they failed to recover the girl. They also demanded action against the police officials.
They said police failed to trace the girl for the last seven days till her body was found yesterday.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri immediately responded saying the girl was missing and Hiranagar police station had registered an FIR on the basis of complaint lodged by her father.
“Police was making all out efforts to trace the girl but yesterday jher body was recovered from the forests,’’ Veeri said, adding that a Special Investigating Team (SIT) headed by SDPO Border has been set up for speedy investigations in the case. He said the accused will not be spared.
Not satisfied with the reply, all NC and Congress MLAs besides Hakim Yasin staged a walk-out shouting slogans against police and the Government. Saroori also tore papers in the Assembly before walking-out
Speaking to reporters, NC MLA Mian Altaf said, “Police has failed to trace the girl for over a week. The Government should taken action against them.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly Nazir Ahmad Gurezi asked the Government to conduct a thorough probe into the mysterious death of the girl.
Gurezi also directed the Government to come up with a statement in the House in this regard.
