JAMMU, Oct 20: Taking a strong dig at opposition parties, Union Minister of State in PMO with Independent Charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that after losing the power at Centre and in the State, the opposition during last four years started propagating that BJP is losing ground in the State and it will face a waterloo at hustings, but this has been proved totally wrong with party getting a landslide victory in the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in the State.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organized by Tawi Andolan at Trikuta Nagar here today to honour Dr Jitendra Singh for getting National River Conservation Project for holy Devika in Udhampur sanctioned and seeking reservations for the International Border (IB) people at par with the people of Line of Control (LoC), Dr Jitendra Singh said that people of the State in general and Jammu region in particular proved the opposition parties totally wrong who during last four years out of desperation have started launching a misinformation campaign against the BJP by spreading canards that the party will face complete rout in the future elections.
The Union Minister said the myth which was created over last four years by the opposition has exploded and the BJP stands vindicated on every front for its pro national and pro poor programmes and polices. He said this is for the first time that single political party got a mandate in Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) elections.
Maintaining that these election results have also proved the political pundits wrong who too had predicted BJP’s dismal performance in the future elections, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the opposition parties launched a venomous campaign against the BJP after Hiranagar incident and had predicted BJP’s downfall but in Hiranagar itself party got the majority showing that people are solidly behind the BJP led by Amit Shah and they fully endorse the policies and programmes of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Ridiculing at opposition parties including Congress, Panthers Party and National Conference (NC) which were drawing pleasure that BJP will be defeated by its partymen within, Union Minister said that his party has been vindicated which emerged as single largest party in fiercely fought Local Body elections in the State and its performance was marvelous in Basholi, Kathua and Nagri ULB elections.
He said for the first time the BJP has captured Municipal Committee, Ramnagar, in Udhampur district and it got absolute majority in Katra and Reasi which showed the party is gaining popularity day by day as it has made in roads in those areas also where BJP had no member previously.
Maintaining that every election is important for BJP, Dr Jitendra Singh said whether big or small every election is a test of our performance and standing in the public.
“The elections provide us an opportunity to show our performance and live up to expectations of the masses”, he said. Complimenting the people of Jammu region for reiterating their faith in the commitment, ideology and developmental programmes of PM, Narendra Modi and party president, Amit Shah, Dr Jitendra Singh said the results of the Local Body elections will not only boost the morale of BJP activists but will inspire them to live up to the challenge of Parliamentary elections.
The Union Minister also lashed out at opposition and said it’s myth that BJP is banking on the vote bank of a particular community has also been exploded by the result of the ULB elections in the State as large number of party’s victorious candidates in the State belonged to Muslim community especially in Kashmir and erstwhile Doda district.
He also said that the duplicity of PDP and NC which boycotted the elections has been exposed by public as on the one hand they have given the boycott call and on the other hand their public base has been eroded as their prominent leaders who contested as proxy candidates were rejected by the public.
Earlier, while speaking at the function organised by Tawi Andolan led by Chander Mohan Sharma, senior BJP leader, Dr Jitendra Singh said that it was an injustice with the people of this region that the denizens on one portion of border were getting reservation benefits while the people living in another portion of the same border remained ignored for political reasons for decades together.
He said as the Ministers from that region belonged to NC and Congress they gave benefit to their area and ignored the other area on political reasons.
He said after Modi Government took over it decided to undo this injustice and took an initiative for granting reservation to the people living on IB also.
On conservation of river Tawi, Dr Jitendra Singh complimented Chander Mohan Sharma for taking pains in keeping the river Tawi clean and launching a public campaign in this regard. He said our childhood has passed on the banks of this river so it is an obligation to us to keep this river hygienically clean. He said the pollution in river Tawi is cause of concern for all of us.
Referring to river conservation Project of Devika in Udhampur, he said scientifically its cleanliness is our duty but from the religious point of view it is our obligation also. He said the Devika Rejuvenation Project is based on the grounds of Ganga Rejuvenation Project.
In his address, Chander Mohan Sharma lauded the role of Dr Jitendra Singh in getting the Devika Rejuvenation Project sanctioned and taking pains in getting reservations for the border people of Jammu. He along with other members of Andolan honored Dr Singh on the occasion.
