Operation in Kashmir ends as militants escape

SRINAGAR : Search operation, which started in the wee hours after exchange of fire, ended as militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said.
They said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched search operations at several places in Pulwama after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) posters appeared asking people to boycott bypoll in Anantnag parliamentary constituency on April 12.
However, when security forces reached Batnore Lassipora in Pulwama, which is part of Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, they came under fire from militants hiding there at 0200 hrs in the dead of night.
Security forces also retaliated and exchange of fire continued for some time.
Later, additional security forces were rushed to the area, the said, adding that but the operation was stopped to avoid any civilian casualty due to darkness.
However, with the first light this morning security forces resumed search operation in the area, the sources said.
They said the operation ended as the militants managed to escape. No arrests were made, they said. (AGENCIES)
