Only Cong can address issues of downtrodden: Ex DyCM

JAMMU, Feb 16: Senior Congress leader and former Dy Chief Minister, Tara Chand today said that only Congress being the oldest and secular force is capable to address the genuine issues and demands of the downtrodden sections of the society including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
While addressing one day convention of SC/ST/OBCs at village Sarmala in Khour Block today, former Tara Chand said that Congress had played a key role in the Independence movement and post independence it ensured equal rights for all. He said that Congress is a secular ideology which wants equal development of all sections of the society.
Former DyCM further said that the Constitution drafted by Dr BR Ambedkar guarantees equal rights to all sections of the society. He said that reservation was granted to the downtrodden section of the society for their upliftment. He alleged that some forces are trying to bring an end to the reservation granted constitutionally to these communities. He urged upon the SCs, STs and OBCs to fight against atrocities.
He said that every religion enjoys equal rights in India and it all happened because of Congress. Criticizing few forces which are hell bent to disrupt the communal fabric of the nation Tara Chand said that people must support Congress party which treats every religion and person equal.
During the convention the issue of restoration of reservation in promotion was also discussed and Tara Chand extended support to the employees fighting for the same.
JP Gandhi, senior lawyer, Ram Saran Bhagat, vice president District Congress Jammu Rural and President Megh Sabha Akhnoor, Kuldeep Raj Bhagat Chairman BDC Kot Bhalwal, Kalidass Block president Bhalwal Brahmana and Block president Barwala Biradari Akhnoor, Suraj Prakash president Barwala Biradari Khour, Retd CEO Brij Lal Verma, Romesh Verma, Sham Lal, Mohan Lal, Naseeb Chand and others were also present on the occasion.
