Srinagar Feb 16: National Conference leader Hilal Akbar Lone was today booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for delivering a hate speech during a public rally in Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Lone who is also the elder son of Member Parliament from North Kashmir and senior National Conference leader, Mohammad Akbar Lone, was released yesterday from MLA hostel, after which he was again arrested by Hajin Police.
Hilal was booked under FIR number 02/2021 under Sections 153 A/ 188/ 505 IPC and 13 of the Unlawful Activities Act, which was already registered at Police Station Hajin.
An official said that Hilal had delivered a hate speech while addressing a public rally during the DDC election campaign in Hajin last year.
He said that Hilal was remanded to 10 days police custody by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora. Meanwhile, National Conference leader and MP Akbar Lone said that his son has not given any hate speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of the country.
Lone said that he is not happy with the way police have lodged an FIR against his son and has shown his detention which is comprehensively a breach of law or rule. He further said that the speech, which his son has given, happens frequently with the politicians.
Earlier, in December last year Hilal was detained in Sumbal and was shifted by police to MLA hostel on December 25 last year. He was released yesterday.
Reacting to the arrest of Hilal Lone, fomer Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today accused BJP of different yardstick over hate speeches of their own leaders.
Abdullah tweeted: “BJP has a completely different standard when it comes to hate speech from its own leaders. They can call for hands to be cut off, people to be murdered & it’s fine. Hilal Lone makes a speech & anti-terror laws are used to book him.”
