JAMMU, May 30: In a drive to root-out drugs smuggling from the society, police arrested a narcotic smuggler along with large quantity of intoxicant capsules, tablets and injections.
“As part of the special drive launched by IGP Jammu Danish Rana, police team from Bakshi Nagar police station led by SDPO City West Sandeep Choudhary and SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Dalip Singh under the supervision of SSP Jammu Uttam Chand on specific information intercepted a pedestrian carrying bag on suspicious grounds”, said SP City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan.
He added that during checking of the bag, police recovered 222 intoxicant capsules, 76 tablets and 52 injections and arrested the drug peddler on the spot.
The accused has been identified as Amit Gupta, son of late Charanjeet Lal Gupta of Bharat Nagar, Rehari Colony.
He stated that the accused was carrying the consignment of drugs and was about to deliver to his associates for further distribution among the youth to make them drug addicts, but was nabbed and his nefarious designs were thwarted by the police.
“All these drugs are poison for the youth and also effect human body. The efforts made by police in rooting out the drugs smuggling by nabbing the narcotic smugglers will go a long way in improving health of the people in general and youth in particular”, SP added.
A case under FIR number 54/15 under Section Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Bakshi Nagar and investigation started.
It is to mention that a team of Jammu Police had yesterday recovered 80,000 intoxicant capsules and tablets with the arrest of four persons including two brothers from Jammu Hatt area, falling under the jurisdiction of Nowabad police station.
