One killed in assault, another in fire mishap

JAMMU, May 15: A youth injured critically in an assault case at Kheri in Udhampur district and a 55-year old man injured in a fire incident at Chowki Choura in Akhnoor Tehsil, succumbed to their injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu.
According to a police spokesperson, a youth identified as Liaqat Ali (21) son of Neerja, a resident of Sabzi Mandi in Udhampur district was attacked with lathi by another youth namely Nazakat Ali son of Sheefa of Kheri, at Kheri, yesterday.
In the incident, Liaqat received serious injuries and was shifted to GMCH Jammu on the same day, where he expired this afternoon.
In this regard, Udhampur police has registered a case under Section 307 against the accused, who is absconding. Meanwhile, after conducting medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
In Chowki Choura area of Akhnoor, a man identified as Preetam Singh (55) son of Suru Ram of Chowki Choura, got injured in a fire mishap, yesterday. He was rushed to GMCH Jammu for treatment, where he passed away this afternoon. After conducting post mortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites. The concerned police has taken cognizance of the matter.
