JAMMU, Apr 28: A woman was killed today while another sustained critical injuries when an uncontrolled truck first hit a scooty and then a stationary mini-bus at Satwari Chowk.
According to a police spokesman, a speeding truck bearing registration number JK02G-6425, which was on its way to Jammu, on reaching Satwari Chowk in front of Bank of India, became uncontrolled due to suspected brake failure and first hit a scooty (registration number JK02BK-6430) and then a mini-bus (registration number JK02BE-6035) as well as two of its female passengers which were deboarding the vehicle.
“In the mishap, both female passengers, who were identified as Darshana Devi (45) wife of Sardari Lal and Rani Devi (37) wife of Surinder Kumar, both residents of Akal Chattha, received serious injuries and were immediately rushed to Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar. In view of their serious condition, the doctors at Gandhi Nagar referred them to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where Darshana Devi was declared as brought dead by the doctors”, the spokesman added.
He said that the body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital for postmortem while a case in this connection was registered at police station Satwari and a manhunt was on to nab the accused truck driver, who managed to flee from the spot. “The truck and the scooty involved in the mishap were seized”, he added.
