UDHAMPUR, Aug 12: A woman died and seven persons got injured when a Maruti van, they were travelling in, rolled down into deep gorge adjoining National Highway near Thard, late last night.
The accident took place around 1.:15am and the Maruti van JK06-8576 was on its way from Jammu to Bhaderwah when it met with the accident. Police and locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to Udhampur District Hospital where one of them succumbed to her injuries while others were referred to GMC Hospital Jammu.
The deceased was identified as Koushalya Devi (65), wife of Sanjeev Singh of Bhaderwah.
The injured were identified as Pooja Devi (38), wife of Naresh Antal of Batote, Partap Singh (50) son of Jamit Singh, Sarla Devi (45) wife of Sawarn Singh, Naina Devi (45) wife of Kamal Singh, Sahil Smayal (20), son of Surjeet Singh and Purna Devi (60) wife of Balwan Singh, all resident of Bhaderwah and the van driver Swaran Singh (45), son of Kikar Singh.
Meanwhile, a man was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his house in village Pathi Pgarha in Udhampur.
The deceased was identified as Ishwar Dass (55), son of Sohan Mal of Paghara Udhampur. He was found dead under mysterious circumstances and the family members called Udhampur Police, which shifted the dead body to hospital for postmortem and other legal formalities.
Police has registered the case under Section 174 RPC for further investigation.
