One kg charas, 175 kg poppy straw recovered; 3 arrested

RAMBAN, July 31: Continuing drive against the menace of drug peddling, Ramban Police today seized one kilogram of charas and 175 kilograms of poppy straw.
Giving details, SSP Ramban, Randeep Kumar said that a police team led by SHO Police Station Batote Inspector Arun Kotwal under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Mohd Rafiq Choudhary stopped a Maruti Van bearing registration number 2958- JK19 at Baggu Nallah.
During checking of vehicle, 20 pieces of charas (Cannabis) weighing one kilograms were found concealed in a bag. Apart from charas, 30 kilograms of poppy straw was also found in two large plastic bags.
The narcotic material was seized and driver of the vehicle namely Mohd Khursheed, son of Mehtab Din of Dalwas was arrested under NDPS Act.
At Shan Palace, a police team from Ramban Police Station led by Inspector Ajay Singh Chib signaled a truck bearing registration number PB10EH – 1097 to stop for checking but the driver accelerated the vehicle in order to escape from the spot.
However, the vehicle was chased at at Mehar, five kilometers away from Ramban town and from the vehicle police recovered 15 kilograms of poppy, which was concealed in a specially fabricated place under the fuel tank.
The vehicle driver namely Kamaljeet Singh, son of Mohan Singh of Jassian Road, Friends Colony Ludhiana was arrested under NDPS Act.
In another major success, a police team led by SHO Police Station Ramsoo Inspector Nazir Ahmed Dar intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02T- 0773 and recovered seven bags filled with 130 kilograms of poppy straw
