One drug peddler held with 9.55 gms of heroin, another found dead

KATHUA, May 18: continuing the action against the drug menace in the region, Kathua Police today achieved significant breakthroughs in two separate narcotics-related incidents.
In the first incident, acting on specific intelligence input, a police team from Police Station Hiranagar, under the close supervision of SSP Kathua Shobhit Saksena and guidance of SDPO Border Dheeraj Katoch and SHO PS Hiranagar Insp Ashish Sharma, laid a special naka (checkpoint) near Shamshan Ghat, Hiranagar.
During checking, the team intercepted a motorcyclist, Rana Mohd, S/o Kaju, R/o Manyari Rajbagh, Tehsil Hiranagar, who was found in possession of approximately 9.55 grams of heroin-like substance (Chitta). The suspect was riding an unregistered motorcycle.
Both the contraband and the motorcycle were seized on the spot and the accused was taken into custody.
A case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Hiranagar and further investigation is underway.
In a separate incident at Lakhanpur main market, locals alerted police after a man reportedly locked himself inside a public toilet. The unknown person had parked his scooty (Registration No. PB35AJ-1813) nearby before entering the toilet and not coming out for a long time.
The police after reaching the spot broke open the door, only to discover the man had died inside.
A substance suspected to be heroin (Chitta) was recovered from his possession.
The body was shifted to Government Medical College, Kathua for medico-legal formalities.
Lakhanpur Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the source of the narcotics.
