One dies in Leh; Anantnag achieves target, Sgr to follow

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Oct 7: One person died of COVID-19 and another tested positive in Leh district in the Union Territory of Ladakh today while 134 fresh cases of the virus were reported from Jammu and Kashmir.
An 83-year-old man hailing from Leh town died of COVID-19 in the hospital taking Corona toll in Ladakh to 208 and Leh to 150.
One person tested positive in Leh today. The UT of Ladakh now has 49 active positive cases including 46 in Leh and three in Kargil.
Among 134 new COVID positive cases in J&K, 75 were reported in Kashmir and 59 in Jammu.
In the Jammu region, 21 persons today recovered from the virus leaving 317 active positive cases.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 75 fresh cases of COVID-19.
The number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached 206,199 including 203,174 recoveries and 2,252 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,090 including 773 from Kashmir division.
With 109 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 324,736 which is 98.33 percent of the total cases.
Those who tested positive include 43 from Srinagar, 5 from Baramulla, 6 from Budgam, 3 from Pulwama, 2 from Kupwara, 05 from Anantnag, 3 from Bandipora and 8 from Ganderbal.
Meanwhile, first in Kashmir Division and the fourth in J&K, district Anantnag today achieved 100% coverage in terms of the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine administered to the beneficiaries in the age group of 18 and above.
As per DC Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla, , over 17 thousand doses of the COVID vaccine were administered across the Anantnag district, while a total of over 14 thousand first doses were also given during the day. At the same time, over 2100 vaccine shots were administered across the district as second doses. In a single day, highest 29,000 persons were vaccinated, he added.
“In Kashmir, Anantnag is the first district to achieve 100% coverage in 18 and above population while as other districts are also gaining pace with every passing day,” the officials said.
As per the details, the estimated population of Anantnag district for the 18 and above population is 742,073, while 746,666 people under the category have received their first vaccine shot, making the coverage 101 per cent.
The other districts in J&K that have achieved 100 per cent coverage in the said category include Ramban Samba and Poonch, while districts such as Srinagar, Shopian, Budgam and Jammu are a little far from achieving the milestone.
In this regard, the district Srinagar is expected to meet the target within the next 13 days, while Budgam and Jammu are expected to meet the target of achieving 100% coverage in the first dose in a little over a week.
As per figures shared, a total of 1 lakh 68 thousand 389 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered during the day across J&K. In Kashmir Division alone, 1 lakh 28 thousand 843 doses were administered while 39 thousand 546 doses of COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in Jammu region.
In Kashmir, across over 1300 vaccination sites, the highest vaccine doses were administered in Baramulla which registered over 23 thousand during the day, followed by Srinagar with over 21 thousand vaccine doses during the day.  In the Jammu division, with nearly 1000 vaccine sites, district Jammu registered the higher number of doses and recorded over 9 thousand doses during the day.
In terms of overall numbers, J&K has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to around 93% of the population falling in the 18 and above category, while as around 42% population has already received their second dose of the vaccine. J&K has an estimated 18 and above population recorded as 9,303,842, while 8,664,393 have recovered their first dose and 3,870,504 have been fully vaccinated.
