JAMMU, May 30: One-day Mahila Congress Convention was held here today at Kunjwani where Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest.
The Convention was attended by All India Mahila Congress President, Anita Verma, Vice President, Lalit Joshi, MLA and President Mahila Congress J&K, Indu Pawar, District President Jammu, Prabha Slathia, District President Samba, Champa Devi, District President Poonch, Parveen Akhtar, District President Rajouri, Manju, Senior General Secretary, Chanchal Popli, Vijay Chib, Vanadana Sharma, Kanta Bhan and congress workers from other districts of Jammu province.
Mr. Sham Lal Sharma urged upon the Mahila Congress Wing to work for the betterment of the society and strengthen the Congress party at gross root level for sustained peace, prosperity and development of the state and spread the ideology of 150 year old Congress party.
He recalled the contributions of Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi and other stalwart women of the Party including, Sarojni Naidu, Kamala Nehru and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi towards the nation. He said that Centre and State Governments have launched a number of welfare schemes for empowerment of the women folk.
Senior Congress Mahila leaders also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the contribution of Congress party for upliftment of weaker section of the society.
