Clashes in Maisuma, 4 cops injured

SRINAGAR, May 30: Four police men were injured as supporters of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) pelted stones on the police in Maisuma area of Srinagar this morning in protest against Government disallowing its chairman Yasin Malik from distribution of relief material to Doda earthquake victims.
Police said here that four policemen were injured in Maisuma area in stone pelting incidents. A police spokesperson said, “there was a law and order situation in the interior of the Maisuma area, today, when miscreants pelted stones on police. Police exercised maximum restraint and brought the situation under control.”
“Due to stone pelting four policemen, constable Zahoor Ahmad, constable Joginder Singh, Constable Mohammad Arif and SPO Shabir Ahmad were got injured”, police said.
They were shifted to Police Hospital, Srinagar where from Mohammad Arif was referred to Bone and Joints Hospital, Srinagar for further treatment, police said.
One protester was also detained by police. Shops and business establishment in the area remained closed in protest against detention of Yasin Malik.
Malik was yesterday detained in Doda and was not allowed to distribute aid among the earthquake victims in the district. He along with his supporters were boarded in police vehicles and let off in Qazigund, South Kashmir.
Malik while addressing a press conference this afternoon soon after his arrival in Srinagar called for a complete strike during Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s visit to the Valley on June 25.
Malik alleged that at the behest of Congress high command in New Delhi, police didn’t allow them to distribute relief material among Doda quake hit victims.
