On Intl Disability Day, physically challenged demand implementation of RPD Act

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Dec 3: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed by associations of persons with disabilities, both in Jammu as well as Srinagar, while demanding implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPD) Act, 2016.
All Jammu and Kashmir Disable Welfare Association under headship of their chairman Sushil Kumar Sharma observed International Disability Day here at Akhnoor by organizing a one day convention during which Sharma highlighted their major demands viz implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 in J&K, opening of new Tehsil Social Welfare Offices, enhancement of monthly pension, reservation in all spheres and special safeguard for disable employees regarding transfers and promotions and implementation of National Trust Act 1999.
Listening to the various demands and issues of disable people, special guest Advocate Ankur Sharma in his address announced that all the demands mentioned by Association in their memorandum will be enlisted in their party vision document (manifesto). Another special guest Zorawar Singh Jamwal (Chairman Team Jammu) also assured full cooperation of Team Jammu to the disable people in their fight for their rights.

In Srinagar, scores of specially-abled persons assembled at Press Enclave and held a demonstration demanding implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPDA), 2016 in J&K. Holding placards and banners, which read, ‘we want justice’, the protestors demanded implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 in J&K, including reservation in jobs.
The demonstrators also highlighted other issued confronted by them. “There are seats reserved for specially-abled persons in buses, but no one adheres to that those guidelines. We don’t have railway cards, which entities us for a rebate in fare. We have been running for pillar to post to get the railway card. The officials send us from one department to another?,” a protestor said. He said the Government gives them Rs 1000 per month but they get the same once in three to four months.
To observe the Day, a seminar was organized in the premises of Jiger under the guidance of its founder Sandhya Dhar. The program began with beautiful song sung by Bharti Mehra and her team. Special guest on the occasion were Girdhari Lal Raina, Ajay Bharti, Vikram Koul and Monika Kohli. On the occasion, two wheel chairs were also donated to the disabled persons by Ashok Bhat.
