SRINAGAR, July 20: Leader of the Opposition and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Sharma today said that the INDIA bloc has made it clear that it seeks only the restoration of Statehood to J&K and “accepts” the abrogation of Article 370.
Addressing a press conference here, Sharma, while terming Omar Abdullah an “unsuccessful CM,” said that it was Omar who had stated that although he did not expect anything from the BJP Government, the INDIA bloc would restore Article 370 when it comes to power.
“When a joint letter was written to the Prime Minister by Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, they demanded only the restoration of Statehood; they did not discuss the so called special status, thereby exposing the lies of the Omar led Government; they acknowledged the abrogation of Article 370,” he said. The Leader of the Opposition said these parties have always “relied on lies,” noting that the INDIA bloc has made it clear that they only want Statehood to be restored.
“The restoration of Statehood is the BJP’s agenda, and if the Congress toes that line, we welcome it. Statehood has been promised by both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister,” he said.
On the functioning of the NC led Government, Sharma said that whenever it is questioned about the promises made to the people, the Government resorts to “theatrics,” while Omar is trying to be “over smart.”
“He (the CM) is undermining the people of Kashmir. What happened on July 14 was a drama. The gate of the graveyard was open-what was the need to climb the wall? How did others, including his father and the lady Minister, enter?”
Sharma said it was expected of the Chief Minister to work by taking along both regions, but, according to him, Omar has reduced himself to being “only the CM of Kashmir.”
“He has trampled on the sentiments of the people of Jammu by glorifying the traitors of July 13. By what he did on that day, he has shown that he considers himself only the CM of Kashmir. He is an unsuccessful CM,” Sharma said.
The BJP leader also lauded the ongoing efforts of the administration to deliver justice to families affected by terrorism. He said these families had been left hopeless, but “the LG has shown them a ray of hope.”
“Several families were affected by terrorism over the last three decades and were ignored for a long time by successive Governments,” he said.
Sharma added that the administration’s efforts aim to make their lives happier and more secure. “In the last 15 days, documentation of cases of several families affected by terrorism has been ensured by the administration under the LG’s orders,” he added.
“During two functions, appointment orders have been given to several families, and for other cases that are in the pipeline, it has been stated that within one month all such victims will receive relief,” he said, terming it “a major development that should not be taken lightly.”
