SRINAGAR:  Hitting out at State Government for wanting postponing bi-election for Anantnag parliamentary seat citing security reason, main opposition National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah said if only five per cent population is trouble makers as per Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, then why the polls are deferred.

“Only five per cent population are trouble makers as per @MehboobaMufti & her colleagues so why defer the elections? Fix a date ASAP & let’s see,” Mr Abdullah, who is the former Chief Minister of the state, wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Mr Abdullah was responding to tweet which read, “Deferment of Lok Sabha by-poll in South Kashmir on J&K Govt’s req will be a remarkable admission of the PDP-BJP coalition’s failure in two yrs.”

The Anantnag Parliamentary seat fell vacant on July 4 after Ms Mufti was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Anantnag.

Earlier this year she took over as the Chief Minister of the state, following the death of her father and predecessor Mufti Mohammad Syeed in a hospital in Delhi. (AGENCIES)
