JAMMU, Apr 17: A deputation of the Old Janipur Civil Society Welfare Action Committee, led by its chairman Kulwant Singh Sambyal, today met Dr Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), to raise several long-pending civic issues affecting residents of Old Janipur and adjoining areas.
During the meeting, the deputation highlighted the deteriorating condition of Subhash Chander Bharat Mata JDA Park, terming it highly dilapidated and lacking proper maintenance. They emphasized that the park, once a vital public space, now poses inconvenience to residents, particularly senior citizens and children.
The Committee submitted a detailed memorandum outlining key demands, foremost among them being the formal handover of the JDA Park to JMC to ensure proper upkeep. They also called for urgent security and infrastructure upgrades in and around the park, including installation of flood lights and high-resolution CCTV cameras linked to the nearest police station.
The deputation further stressed the need for repair and renovation of defunct street lights, lanes, drains, and blacktopping of roads, along with proper management of nallahs in Wards 34, 35 and 36. Among other demands were allocation of space for construction of two community halls for senior citizens, and renovation of public bathrooms and the Nag Temple within the park premises.
Additional issues raised included development of a new park at Indira Vihar by utilizing available water body space, covering of the open nallah at Bread Factory Road in Pandoka Colony to address sanitation concerns, and renovation of the community hall at Shant Nagar. The Committee also sought construction of separate public toilets for men and women at the chowk on High Court Road, Old Janipur.
Dr Devansh Yadav gave a patient hearing to the deputation and assured that all concerns raised would be examined, with appropriate action to be taken on priority.
