This has reference to the news item ‘CM seeks students’ help to implement odd-even in J&K’ DE May 7. With every passing day, the traffic on the State roads is becoming unmanageable and problematic. The increasing number of vehicles is not only creating pollution but increasing the risk of accidents.
Due to heavy traffic, the city roads get choked almost every day. These traffic jams waste a lot of people’s time and burn barrels of oil.
At times, many sick people who need quick medical attention get stuck in traffic jams, and it becomes quite embarassing for family members and attendants. Students and employees also become victims of these jams.
Though people are to a large extent responsible for the mess, the traffic police too is found apathetic at times. People park their vehicles here, there and everywhere where their instincts pamper their ego. They do not care for others. These should be taken to task for such attitude.
The odd-even formula will succeed only if people cooperate with Government machinery. Unless that happen, traffic will remain chaotic as is at present.
