JAMMU, May 12: Acknowledging contribution of nursing staff in providing proper medicare, Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings Ch Lal Singh today said nurses are frontline healthcare providers who make important decisions upfront and take timely action in patient care.
The Minister said this while addressing a function organized by Nurses Association at Government Medical College, Jammu’s auditorium in connection with the celebration of International Nurses Day today.
Principal GMC Dr. Ghanshyam Dev Gupta, Medical Superintendent GMC Dr. Robinder Rattan Pal, HoDs of various departments, Paramedics, President, J&K Nurses Association, Madhu Khajuria including nurses in large numbers were present on the occasion.
Lauding the role of nurses in healthcare, the Minister said they work tirelessly for patient care and they have a prime role in treatment of ailing. He added that various reformative measures are being initiated to improve the working condition for nurses.
Referring to contribution of Florence Nightingale in modern nursing, Ch Lal Singh called upon the nurses to follow her footsteps and selflessly serve the mankind. He said healthcare is a noble profession in which nurses have a crucial part to play. He asked the Nurses fraternity to work with dedication in providing best healthcare facilities to the patients.
President J&K Nurses Association, Madhu Khajuria, putforth a charter of demands pertaining to issues of nurses’ before the Minister and sought an early redressal to the same.
Responding to the demand of nurses, Ch Lal Singh asked the Principal GMC to explore possibilities for enhancement of allowance for nurses uniform.
Later, a cultural programme was presented by the students of AMT School.
