JAMMU, May 12: International Nurses Day which marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, was celebrated today across Jammu region with enthusiasm to hail the contributions that nurses make to the society
On the occasion, J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina along with party general secretary Dr D K Manyal, honoured nurses, Principal GMC Jammu Dr Nasib Chand Digra, HoDs and other staff. Others honoured were Superintendent GMC Dr Dara Singh, Deputy MS Dr Rehana Khurshid, Deputy MS Dr Bharat Bhushan, Dr Amit Sharma, Matron Mehmooda Bano, Senior Staff Nurse Mary Victoria and Staff Nurse Rupali.
While speaking on the occasion, Ravinder Raina said that in the present times, nurses have done their duty heroically along with other health care workers in fighting against Coronavirus. He said, “Due to the ongoing Corona Pandemic no grand programme could be organized to felicitate the Nurses for their exemplary duties, but we feel ourselves indebted forever for their services”.
Earlier, Administrator, GMC and Associated Hospitals (GMC&AH), Jammu Amit Sharma crowned the Head Matron and honoured nursing heroes while acknowledging the relentless efforts of nursing community. Principal GMC Jammu Dr Nasib Chand Digra and his team recalled the matchless contributions of Nurses from time to time in all departments and wished them well for the future.
Acknowledging the immense contribution of nursing staff in the patient healthcare amidst COVID-19 pandemic, former Minister Priya Sethi today said that nurses are important component in the treatment of patients suffering from COVID-19. She made these observations while honouring the nurses and para-medical staff of SMGS Hospital as front line Corona warriors here in connection with the celebration of International Nurses Day.
Sethi felicitated Dr Manoj Chalotra, Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital and Dr Rakesh Sharma, Deputy Superintendent and staff nurses of SMGS Hospital for their contribution in the pandemic time. Referring to the everlasting inspiring contribution of Florence Nightingale in modern nursing, Sethi urged the nurses to follow her footsteps and selflessly serve the mankind, which is their ultimate mandate.
To mark the occasion, Rekha Mahajan, secretary BJP, J&K UT felicitated nurses at Urban Health Centre Nanak Nagar Jammu and thanked them for their selfless service in this critical time. She was accompanied by Indu Puri Mahila Morcha protocol incharge and Divya Jain Mahila Morcha district secretary. Mahajan said that the Covid-19 pandemic is a stark reminder of the vital role nurses play. Without nurses and other health workers, we will not win the battle against outbreaks, she asserted.
Director, Jammu & Kashmir Innovative Foundation for Transforming Society (JKIFTS), Dr Tasaduk Hussain Itoo, on the occasion of International Nurses Day, said that nurses play a very crucial role in patient care and management and form a backbone in medical healthcare system. While paying tribute to nurses across the world, he said, “Respect to all nurses around the world for their immense role in patient care and management. Literally speaking, we doctors stand nowhere without their presence”.
A function was organized at District Hospital Poonch in connection with the celebration of International Nurses Day. DC Poonch Rahul Yadav was the chief guest on the occasion. CMO Poonch Dr Ghulam Malik, Medical Superintendent and DH Poonch Dr Shamim ul Nissa Bhatti were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the DC Poonch acknowledged the immense contribution of nursing staff in the patient healthcare. He also highlighted that nurses are at the forefront to fight pandemics and presented them shawls as a token of respect.
On the Occasion, Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta awarded appreciation certificates to nurses, Amandeep Kour and Manpreet Kour, and some media persons while acknowledging the invaluable and selfless services rendered by them in the fight against COVID-19. Rohit Seth, president, All JK NHM Employees Association and Rajinder Kumar Sharma (advisor) were also present.
Stephens College of Nursing observed International Nurses Day with enthusiasm, fervour and zeal. Dr Kamal Saini (IGP retired) chairperson of the school, Satvinder Saini (Director SIPS), Muni Dhar (principal) and Manoj Kotru (administrator) wished and congratulated all the faculty members for their sincere efforts and hard work. A pledge was taken by the nursing staff and students at their respective places to serve humanity and people with dedication determination and diligence.
