NEW DELHI, Apr 12: State-owned NTPC will soon appoint firms to start production from five coal mines that were recently re-alloted to it.
“NTPC will soon appoint Mine Developer and Operators (MDOs) for the development of all mines recently alloted to it,” a source privy to the development said.
The source further said that NTPC is committed to beginning coal output from the mines in another two years.
The five mines are Kerandari, Chatti Bariatu, Chatti Bariatu (South) in Jharkhand, Talaipalli in Chhattisgarh and Dulanga in Odisha.
“The talks are under way with some of the MDOs,” the source said, adding that with the government recently giving mines both through auction and allotment the demand for the MDOs has suddenly gone up.
The state-owned power generation company was last month re-allotted five coal blocks that were cancelled last year by the Supreme Court.
It had said the blocks alloted to it will help boost power production.
“Our over 24,000 MW capacity is under construction. The allocations will help us generate new capacity,” an NTPC spokesperson had said.
The government had last allotted 38 mines to central and state public sector units including power major NTPC, DVC and steel giant SAIL. (PTI)
