JAMMU, Aug 17: Up in arms against Government decision of making Urdu as compulsory descriptive paper for the post of Naib Tehsildars, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) today staged a strong protest outside the main gate of Jammu University.
The protesting NSUI activists raised slogans against the PDP-BJP Government and termed the move as discriminatory towards Jammu region.
Leading the protest, Avijot Singh, State general secretary NSUI, alleged that Jammu youths have been betrayed by the Government, which recently advertised posts of Naib Tehsildar with the compulsory condition that the candidate must have the knowledge of Urdu which comprises 30 marks. “It is well known fact that students of Jammu Division know Hindi and not Urdu and moreover this condition was not mentioned earlier when the candidates were required to fill the forms,” he said and demanded that either Urdu section should be omitted or an equivalent Hindi be inducted in the paper to provide equal opportunity to the candidates of all the regions.
District president NSUI Jammu unit, Sunny Parihar castigated the ruling BJP for maintaining a criminal silence over the issue.
Ranjodh Singh Khalid Alaie, Rohit Attari, Vishal Singh, Ranbir Singh Salyal and others also addressed the protesters.
