JAMMU, Mar 6: The National Student Union of India (NSUI), J&K unit organized one day convention to commemorate 100th birth year of top Congress leader and former Prime Minister, Late Indira Gandhi here today.
The programme was organised under the leadership of Neeraj Kundan, State president of the NSUI J&K unit while, PCC president Gulam Ahmed Mir presided over the function. Amrita Dhawan, National president NSUI was chief guest of the programme. They paid floral tributes to the towering Congress leader and recalled her exemplary services and sacrifice for the country.
The convention started with the welcome address by Neeraj Kundan. A large number of NSUI activists/ delegates and students from different colleges and universities participated in this grand programme.
While speaking on the occasion. PCC president G A Mir congratulated NSUI state unit for organizing this convention. He said that NSUI is nursery of Congress Party and students are the pillars of the society and future of the nation. He said that NSUI has produced great leaders in India and also feel proud to remain as NSUI activist. Mir further advised the NSUI activists to propagate the programme and polices of Congress party. He assured the NSUI leaders every possible help and cooperation from the Congress Party.
Amrita Dhawan, National president NSUI while addressing the gathering appreciated the programmes and activities of NSUI J&K. She said there is lot of potential in the NSUI activists and students in J&K. Dhawan criticized the State Government for using teargas and lathicharge on students at Jammu. She said that NSUI will always raise the cause of students and will fight for the rights of student community. She said NSUI is the only secular student organization which is fulfilling the aspiration of student community. She attacked BJP led NDA Government for communalizing education institutions.
Senior Congress leaders Sham Lal Sharma, Rigzin Jora CLP leader, Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma, Shahnawaz Choudhary; Iftkhar Ahmed and Hasiba Amin- National NSUI leaders, Pankaj Basotra and Udhay Chib were also present.
