JAMMU, Nov 19: Flaying the style of functioning of the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) during the tenure of previous Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC), the National Secular Forum (NSF) has urged the incumbent CVC to reopen the cases pertaining to corruption and nepotism in Jammu University, which were closed arbitrarily.
Addressing a press conference, NSF State president Dr Vikas Sharma said, “The new CVC Pitamber Lal Gupta has been reviewing the status of all the pending complaints as well as the closed ones also. “The NSF had also filed a complaint (No. 925/2015) against JU authorities clearly highlighting 16 acts of corruption and nepotism along with documentary proofs. But, the complaint was arbitrarily dismissed and consigned to record for unknown reasons,” he said and added that the  University authorities allegedly used all their means including threats to pressurize the complainant to withdraw his complaint but the later  refused to budge.
“The Commission didn’t give fair opportunity to us to present our case and just perused the report submitted by JU Registrar,” he added and  further alleged that the  Commission members who exonerated the JU authorities from all the charges had some understanding owing to which favour was extended to the JU authorities.
“The NSF filed the same complaint with State Vigilance Organization (SVO) on April 19, 2017 for necessary action. But, so far no progress has been made there also. Hence, the new CVC is urged to kindly review the complaint against JU authorities so as to unearth the scandals being committed,” Vikas said.
Among those, who were present in the press-conference, included Manmohan Singh, Manik Sanson, and Ishtiaq Naik.
