JAMMU, July 31: National Secular Forum today paid tribute to Saheed Udham Singh on his 82th death anniversary by organizing a programme at Jammu University Campus.
Amid patriotic slogans, the NSF activists garlanded portrait of Shaheed Udham Singh and recalled supreme sacrifice of the son of the soil for his motherland.
Dr Vikas Sharma, Secretary Central Zone and Coordinator Jammu Distt Urban, J&K National Conference was the chief guest while Dr Sukhdev Singh, President of NSF, presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vikas Sharma threw light on life and supreme sacrifices of Udham Singh. He said that the real tributes to the martyrs would be eradicating evils prevailing in the society like drug addiction, female foeticide and dowry. He exhorted the youth to refrain from drugs and intoxicants.
He maintained that fight for restoration of statehood to J&K shall be the foremost agenda of the party. “People of J&K have suffered a lot during the past three years since abolition of statehood. Now, they want to get rid of bureaucratic rule and waiting for the popularly elected Government,” he further said. He maintained that bureaucratic rule is no substitute for the popularly elected government.
Vikas said that unemployment was all time high in the present scenario which was the root cause of depression and anxiety among the young generation. He said NC had always worked to provide more and more employment opportunities to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Sukhdev Singh, State President NSF also spoke on the occasion. Maskoor Ali Khan, General Secretary NSF delivered the welcome address while Narinder Singh presented vote of thanks.
