LEH, Aug 21: A team of National Security Advisory Body headed by P.C. Haldar, former Director, IB  today in a meeting with Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar discussed different issues of district concerning  defence, food, economy, environment and others.
During the meeting, CEC put forth different important issues of Leh district specially to make Ladakh self sustainable which can only be achieved through land based economy and made the members understand about the disadvantages of Govt. subsidies and unsustainable ways of income through tourism and Army in Ladakh.
Detailing about the valuable natural resources of Ladakh, CEC made a mention of Pashmina, Seabuckthorn and horticulture produces which have an immense potential of generating revenue provided that GoI extends support in exploiting these sectors.
Drawing the attention of the members about the different geographical condition of Ladakh from that of the other parts of the country, CEC expounded in detail that the plans and schemes tailored for plain regions cannot be applied to this part of the country which has a very short period of working season, adding that non-existence of all weather connectivity with the main land, hinders the developmental activities in this region drastically.
Talking about the various developmental projects especially the sustainable projects already submitted with the GoI, CEC requested the members to endorse them for early sanctioning of these important projects.
He urged for opening up of separate Ladakhi Women Regiment / Recruitment in Army and para-military forces, adding that the people of this region have more advantage being born and bought up in this arid and hostile climatic condition as compared to the residents of other parts of the country.
Listening patiently to the concerns of CEC, the NSAB members assured him that the genuine issues of Leh district will be taken with the GoI.
